He is old enough to be her very youthful grandfather.

But the young woman Mel Gibson was chatting to in Malibu on Monday was none other than his 25-year-old girlfriend Rossalind Ross.

The 60-year-old cut a cool figure in jeans and boots, with a button down navy shirt rolled up at the sleeves.

The actor was rocking his impressive greying beard, which he donned for his latest role as ex con John Link in Blood Father.

The first trailer for the upcoming thriller was released on Sunday, in which he plays dad to a troubled teen who was born in 1998 - just eight years after his real life girlfriend.

Rossalind, a former equestrian vaulting champion, has been dating the Mad Max star since last summer.

Meanwhile things aren't going as smoothly with Mel's last girlfriend and baby momma, Oskana Grigorieva.

The 46-year-old currently receives a reported $20,000 in child support every month for their six-year-old daughter, Lucia.

But according to TMZ she is planning a fresh legal bid to have that sum increased by more than 400 per cent to more than $1 million per year. 

The report claimed she's justifying the eyebrow-raising plea by arguing that she needs security, yet 'can't point to any security risk involving [the] 6-year-old'.

Lucia has been caught between her parents' bitter separation battle - in which they both once held restraining orders against each another.  

In June 2015 a Los Angeles court granted the Mad Max star permission to spend a month with Lucia in his homeland during pre-production for new film Hacksaw Ridge, which commenced filming in November.

Gibson has seven his former wife, Robyn, while Grigorieva has one with Timothy Dalton.
