The White Building in Cambodia's Phnom Penh slum was once the pinnacle of modern day living; the first multi-story complex for middle to low income residents, from civil servants to artists - but today it's one of the city's last monuments to the urbanized poor. NGOs entice artists to come and paint murals on the stairs, organise free schooling for the children and business owners set up shop wherever they can, but it is under threat of demolition by the city as it sits of prime real estate.

The vast 100-acre estate known as Saint Hill Manor, where founder L. Ron Hubbard lived, will now be the UK home of Cruise, seen in these exclusive aerial photos. At left is the Castle, a modern building that houses executive offices, auditing and course rooms. At right is the Manor, where Tom will take up residence. Cruise is selling his own English abode, Rede Place, he bought for $4.75 million in 2006 when he was with Katie Holmes
It's currently listed for $7 million and is not far from Saint Hill Manor in East Grinstead, Sussex
The actor wants to make the controversial religion's headquarters a major landmark - and has been dipping in to his own vast personal fortune to make it happen, sources tell Daily Mail Online. Phil Major, a director of the local soccer club and not a Scientologist, received a rare invitation to the annual Scientology bash last October that featured 'bottomless Champagne and four-star food.' Tom asked Major to pose together for a photo but it was the Church's leader David Miscavige who left the biggest impression on Major.'The top actors in the world couldn't come close [to Miscavige]. He speaks so fast and there were no stutters or pauses. I was taken in by the quality of his delivery.'

The most literal-minded people on the planet: Hilarious photos show what happens when people follow instructions TOO closely
Brilliant photos have captured the moments when children and adults alike have taken a set of instructions exactly at their word. They include (pictured clockwise from left) a pupil who was asked to name their quadrilaterals - so called them 'Bob' and 'Sam' in their maths test; a cake decorator who iced the instructions in full; a mother who put a scarf over her head when told to 'Please cover yourself while breastfeeding'; a woman who did a handstand when confronted with an upside down pedestrian sign; a man who turned the instruction 'Hug left curb when leaving' into a very emotional affair and a man who produced a detailed sketch when faced with the road sign 'Draw bridge'.
Utah teacher who had sex with three of her students blames their parents saying they had strained relationships with the boys and defends her 'risque' clothing from jail
A Utah teacher serving time after she admitted to having sexual contact with three of her students defended her actions from behind bars while lashing out at the parents of one of her teenage victims. Brianne Altice (right in July), 37, of Salt Lake City responded to a lawsuit (left) filed against her and the Davis School District in December by one of her victims and his parents saying that they failed to attend her parent-teacher conferences and that their son often complained about his strained relationship with the two. She also shot down claims that she wore 'risque' clothing in the classroom saying that there she had never received any complaints about her work attire. Altice, who is serving a minimum of two years in prison after pleading guilty last April to three counts of forcible sexual abuse, also said that she had no 'evil or malicious intent' by having sexual contact with her three victims.

Thanks to its eerie ruins, the abandoned Ukrainian city of Pripyat has become a popular attraction for those with a morbid curiosity - but some visitors could be accused of being insensitive. On a recent visit organised by a tour group (inset), tourists smiled as they posed for snaps in front of the Chernobyl power plant (left) and were allowed to sit in bumper cars (bottom right) or at children's desks and climb into the shallow end of an empty pool (top right). Dozens of people were killed and thousands more were eventually diagnosed with cancer after a reactor exploded and spewed radiation in April 1986.
