Famed for its ability to blend into its surroundings, the leopard is considered one of the most thrilling - but equally elusive - African big cats.

Hidden in the trees of this otherwise unexceptional photograph lie two of the predators, using their spots to camouflage themselves within the foliage.

Set in the stunning South African Kruger National Park, the incredible pictures were taken by South African guide and photographer Arno Pietersen while he was guiding tourists through the park.

He explained how the leopard was hiding from a hyena wandering below.

Mr Pietersen, 30, said: 'The leopards were trapped in the tree because the hyena was waiting on the ground for them. There are lots of competition between the predators, and hyenas will try to kill leopard cubs if the opportunity arises.'
