  • Carla Whitlock was left scarred for life and blind in one eye after the attack
  • Two brothers accused of acid attack later seen fist bumping and high fiving
  • Billy Midmore, 22, on trial while Geoffrey Midmore, 26, has pleaded guilty

Horrifying CCTV footage shows the moment a mother-of-six was blinded in one eye and left scared for life after she had acid chucked in her face outside a restaurant.

Two brothers accused of carrying out the brutal attack were caught on CCTV 'jubilantly' giving high fives and fist bumps less than an hour later.

Billy Midmore, 22, today told jurors he sent Carla Whitlock a text saying 'you're dead' the day before she was covered in acid - but claimed he had no idea his brother Geoffrey planned to attack her.

He is on trial at Southampton Crown Court having denied a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Geoffrey Midmore, 26, has previously pleaded guilty to the same charge.

Ms Whitlock was attacked with a drain cleaner containing highly concentrated sulphuric acid which left her blind in one eye, scarred her face and burnt her eye lids.

The incident happened as the 37-year-old was walking past the Turtle Bay restaurant in Southampton city centre, Hampshire, on September 18 last year.

The jury was shown CCTV footage of the brothers visiting DIY stores as they shopped around for the One Shot drain cleaner used in the attack.

Footage was also shown of the moment of the attack from CCTV cameras inside the Turtle Bay looking through the windows on to the street where it happened.

The jury was then shown CCTV video captured on a train from Southampton Airport Parkway to Basingstoke which shows the Midmore brothers giving high-fives and fist bumps to a friend.

Kerry Maylin, prosecuting, has previously described their actions as 'jubilant'.

She said: 'They weren't sorry, they were jubilant, they were high fiveing, they were fist bumping, they were laughing.'

Ms Whitlock spoke in September to revealed the extent of the damage the attack caused.

She struggled to speak clearly because some of the acid from the attack damaged her mouth, but courageously stepped in front of the camera showing her horrific scars.

She revealed she was blind in her right eye and said although doctors were trying to save her eyesight, she admitted 'they are not hopeful'.

'I had to have an operation on my right eye. It was just to save the eye at the moment, rather than my eyesight, they're trying to save the eye right now.

'I've got no sight in that eye. They've not ruled out me getting my sight back, but they're not hopeful.

'They have just said I'm going to have a few operations over the coming six months.

'I'm not sure what my future holds for me, I'm just trying to concentrate on getting my sight back and for my face to clear up a bit. That's all I can really think about at the minute.

'I'm OK, my partner is helping me a lot. I'm just trying to manage the best I can.'
