Pouring water all over the stage while attempting to dance is a recipe for disaster.

But on Wednesday night the result was a bit more comical than catastrophic as Justin Bieber took a spill onstage during his now famous artificial rain sequence in Kansas City.

Coincidentally, the 22-year-old was performing his hit Sorry when he ran onto the sopping wet floor only to fall hard onto his bottom.

The moment captured on social media made its way around the internet the following morning.

But the biggest impression was most certainly made on the thousands of fans present, who audibly gasped as they teen sensation fell flat on his bum.

Ever the pro, Bieber paused his performance only momentarily to stand back up as he instantly resumed his crooning.

Meanwhile that same day he posted a shirtless snap on Instagram.

The Canadian pop star proudly showed off his toned, rippling physique in the image, and also a sizeable portion of his underpants.

Revealing his toned abs and pecs covered in permanent scribblings, the gym-fanatic looked down at the floor while holding a lit cigarette, posing in a bathroom.

However, although many of his fans were no doubt excited by the saucy snap, many were saddened by his holding a cigarette.

One fan wrote in the comments under the Instagram post: 'Okay I like Justin and all but he's going to die if he keeps smoking so just stop, every pack of cigarettes u smoke u loose a day of you life think of it like that now.'

Another chimed in 'Baby, why cigarette?', as one devotee added, 'No smoking, baby.'

The contrived shot - the latest in a long line of topless shots shared by the crooner in recent times - was also another chance for Justin to show off his dreadlocks in defiance, following criticism over his new 'do with many slamming him for appropriating black culture.

He first of all revealed his controversial new look last week with a snap on Instagram, before appearing on stage at the iHeart Radio Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

However, his look was not so well-received, as many commentators took to social media to slam him for his 'cultural appropriation'.

One Twitter user wrote: 'Is no one gonna talk about how justin bieber is appropriating black culture?'

While another added: 'Justin bieber has appropriated black culture a lot in the past and we can assume his dreads are based from that.'

However, reports claim that, while backstage at the awards ceremony at the weekend, he was heard defending himself against the onslaught of criticism over his appearance.

According to The Mirror, he told Big Sean: '[People say] you wanna be black and all that stuff, I'm like, 'it's just my hair'.'
