'I'm sorry I didn't fit into my dress as well as people want me to': Hollyoaks actress Sarah George slams body shamers who claimed she looked 'pregnant'

Hollyoaks actress Sarah George has been forced to defend her recent on-screen appearance after viewers speculated whether she was pregnant or had gained weight in a series of hurtful tweets.

The award-winning screen star, who plays Celine McQueen in the Channel 4 soap, sarcastically apologised to viewers for not fitting into her dress 'as well as people seem to want me to' in a defiant message, posted on her Twitter page on Tuesday.

She wrote: 'No wonder so many people have eating disorders and [are ashamed of their bodies].'

Sarah continued: 'Put a bit of weight on over Xmas while on holiday (we're all guilty of it), come back to work, wear a typical McQueen dress and get tweets asking if [I'm] pregnant or just fat when it airs in April. To set that straight no I'm not.'

It was obvious she was shocked and disgusted by the upsetting comments regarding her weight and couldn't fathom how people thought it was acceptable to insult someone in the way that she had been.

She added: 'When did it become okay to comment constantly on people's appearances so negatively? I'm healthy, happy and I exercise regularly and I'm sorry I didn't fit into my dress as well as people seem to want me to.'
