'I am very assertive': Mindy Kaling reveals during Women In The World Summit that she sends cupcakes after 'being brusk'

Mindy Kaling revealed that she sends cupcakes when being overly assertive on Thursday during a women's summit in New York City.

The 36-year-old actress during a one-on-one interview with Alicia Menendez during the Women In The World summit discussed being the creator and star of The Mindy Project,

'I am very assertive, even to the point of being brusk and then I just send cupcakes with a note saying, ''I am sorry for being so assertive, Love Mindy!''' she said.

'In LA, there is a cottage industry of apology gifts you can send for being too assertive as a woman,' she quipped.

'Flower arrangements, artisanal ice cream. You can send a puppy party for demanding respect. ''I'm sorry I demanded respect at that meeting. Here's a puppy party. Love Mindy,"' she joked.

The former writer and star of the US version of The Office cautioned young women to offer more conventional apologies until they become more established.

'You can't employ that. But maybe when you get older you can,' she said.

Mindy also discussed her role as Dr. Mindy Lahiri on the Hulu sitcom and how she didn't want to portray a perfect woman, according to an article by People.

'I wanted to be a really flawed, delusion, funny character. Because as an actress, that's way more fun,' she said.

'All the best parts are villains... I hope that young women look to me, Mindy Kaling, as a role model, but let me play the characters I want to play,' she said.

The Mindy Project will release it midseasone premiere on Tuesday.

The comedy series was cancelled by Fox in May 2015 after three seasons, but was quickly picked up by Hulu.
