You've been using this emoji wrong! What the lady-in-pink picture icon REALLY means (and it's nothing to do with being sassy)
- Toronto events planner Jessi Stern proposed new theory behind woman
- She thinks she's part of a 'mini emoji series' representing getting a haircut
- Her hand gesture is not sassy, Jessi says, but just showing off her new 'do
- This is the latest in a number of theories about the emoji's deeper meaning
The latest in a series of emoji theories broke this week - this time involving the sassy woman wearing pink or purple, depending on what device you're using.
Normally used when announcing important news, the emoji has the rather boring name of Information Desk Person, given to it by Unicode, the creators of the emoji app.
Now one woman has proposed a new theory that has swept the internet.
The latest in a series of emoji theories broke this week - this time involving the sassy woman in pink or purple with an outstretched hand
Jessi Stern, an event planner from Toronto, believes that the woman in pink is part of a two-part emoji series involving a haircut, reports MIC.
Instead of putting her hand out in a sassy gesture, the woman is in fact demonstrating her new hairdo, Jessi writes, following on from the haircutting emoji.
In a Facebook post sent at 1.13am, Jessi writes: 'Alert: Everyone, I am a genius.
It is 1.13 in the morning and I have to go to work tomorrow but I found out the meaning behind the [woman in pink] emoji.
'Look, in the haircutting one she has long hair. That gets cut at her shoulders and now she's showing it off!'
She adds: 'There is meaning to everything in life.'

In 2014, a tweet by Walter Green about the emoji received nearly 1,000 retweets.
The humorous post demonstrates his theory that the woman is part of an emoji mini series about getting into an unsuccessful marriage.
On emojipedia.org, the woman is described as 'a girl holding out her hand as if she were a waitress carrying an invisible tray of drinks'.
The entry goes on to say that she can 'be used for a variety of interpretations, such as sassiness or sarcasm' - but a haircut is not mentioned.
