With the brief trailer providing several cringe-worthy moments, David's opening lines of 'I'm back!' are met with groans and dismay from the office members as he struts past oblivious to the glares.

Bounding back into the office, he announces: 'I'm currently a singer/songwriter and a rep,' before regaling the team with his tales from touring with his band Foregone Conclusion.

Attempting to play air guitar, he also treats the team to a rendition of one of his songs, chanting: 'There's a party in my trousers and everybody's coming.'

Desperate to make his colleagues laugh, the former paper merchants manager proceeds to attempt to explain the pun in question, resulting in a series of crude gestures.

And despite the fact that he now works as a travelling salesman, David refuses to accept that he's not a rockstar, and self finances his Foregone Conclusion tour in a bid to achieve stardom.

Clearing up any misconceptions about the plot, Ricky took to Facebook to post: 'Just to be clear, I am not making a movie. I'm doing a documentary film about David Brent trying to be rock star. Just Sayin.'
