Their relationship was recently branded the real deal by their close pal Simon Cowell.

And Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, 32, and Liam Payne, 22, appeared very much the seasoned couple as they failed in their attempts to train the One Direction singer's beloved Great Dane Watson.

And while Liam has formed a strong bond with the dog he acquired last year while in a relationship with his high school sweetheart Sophia Smith, it was Cheryl who had the greater success.

Watson didn't appear to understand Liam's street lingo. The dog looked blank as the singer called out 'sup' and 'touch me one time'.

However, when Cheryl held out her tattooed hand and calmly said 'paw', Watson dutifully placed his paw in her palm.

Cheryl praised the pooch, telling it 'good boy' before asking it to give her five.

The dog faithfully responded to her 'slice me, brother' quip, again reaching up to her hand.

And after a couple of attempts from Liam to get his pooch to bump fists, a fed-up Watson decided to have a lie down.

Liam seized his moment and joked 'lie down, good boy' as Cheryl chuckled out of shot.

The 22-year-old was able to poke fun at his inability as a dog trainer, sarcastically writing: 'When u know you've trained him really well'

Liam was no doubt just pleased to be reunited with Watson after spending time in LA away from his four-legged friend.

He captioned another video of the barking canine: 'Missed this crazy pup'.

Simon Cowell, 56, recently spilled the beans on a secret night out he enjoyed with the couple in Hollywood last month.

Speaking to The Sun, Simon said: 'I saw them together and we had a really nice dinner.

'They were on good form. They're like two little chipmunks madly in love. Literally they were so cute.'

And the reality TV judge gave his seal of approval to the new couple, as he said the romance wasn't just for show.

Simon said: 'But importantly they both seemed very happy over here and very relaxed. I'm happy for them.' 

Cheryl, 32 and Liam, 22, got together just months after her split from her husband Jean-Bernard Versini after less than two years of marriage.

The Girls Aloud singer cited 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for the split, which allegedly happened in August, last year.

Meanwhile, Cheryl's relationship with the One Direction star has been going from strength to strength.

And it seems as though he already has Cheryl's mother Joan Callaghan's approval after she joined the pair for a dinner date in London in March.

However, both Jean-Bernard and Liam's ex girlfriend Sophia Smith were equally confused by the match.

With Sophia branding the romance as 'so weird'.
