Keeping covered up: New mother Rose Byrne's looks cozy as she braves the cool weather stepping out in New York with a friend

The northern hemisphere may technically be in Spring but the cooler weather is refusing to leave.

But that didn't stop Australian actress Rose Byrne from braving the cooler temperatures as she tried her best to keep warm while stepping out in New York City with a friend on Tuesday.

Looking cozy in a grey woolen coat, the 36-year-old rugged up, finishing her winter look with a burgundy beanie, skinny black jeans and boots while keeping a brown leather bag slung across her body.

The mother-of-one shielded her make-up free complexion behind a pair of dark shaded while keeping her shoulder-length brunette tresses loose underneath her warm head wear.

Meanwhile her blonde friend added a bit of colour to their girls' day outing, wearing a bright blue coat and a brown felt hat while she held onto a red gift bag from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The two friends strolled around the busy streets looking relaxed in each other's company as they chatted.

Rose and partner Bobby Cannavale welcomed their first child together, a baby son Rocco Robin Cannavale on February 1 this year.

Last month, her partner, who stars in the new series Vinyl, took to social media to gush about the new arrival sharing several snaps on Instagram.

While holidaying in Florida, the 45-year-old Boardwalk Empire posted an adorable photo Rocco as the then seven-week-old rested poolside while Bobby seemed to catch up on the news with a newspaper in the frame.

Doting dad Bobby - who also has a 20-year-old son, actor Jake Cannavale, from a previous relationship - proudly captioned the image: 'The best'.

Rose and Bobby began dating in 2012.

The New Jersey native confirmed their relationship at the 2013 Emmy Awards declaring the brunette beauty 'the love of his life' during his acceptance speech for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
