Facebook Live Videos Now Place In News Feed

Facebook Live Videos Now Place In NewsFeedFacebook announced it will now begin to place live videos higher up in peoples’ news feeds while those videos are live, compared to afterward when they’re just recordings. Live videos are viewed over three times more when they’re live versus when they’re no longer live. From now on when videos are live they will be treated as their own content type with greater ranking signals than recorded videos.

“Now that more and more people are watching Live videos, we are considering Live Videos as a new content type… As a first step, we are making a small update to News Feed so that Facebook Live videos are more likely to appear higher in News Feed when those videos are actually live, compared to after they are no longer live.”

At last count, Facebook was serving up 8 billion video views per day. The company did not break down how many of those views were for live videos versus recorded videos. It would be interesting to know just how many views live videos are receiving per day following this recent announcement from Facebook.

Live videos may also be rising in popularity due to the fact that more people than ever are able to produce them. Initially, live video was a feature reserved for verified pages and notable public figures. The feature eventually rolled out to all iOS users this past December, and just last week became available to Android users.

Become A LinkedIn Influencer With Some Best Tips

linkedin

In 2015 LinkedIn opened the doors to its publishing platform for all users in English speaking countries. This means that almost 320 million members on LinkedIn now have access to the publishing platform. The move was made in an attempt to garner more page views and is a way to have users spend more time on the website.

The publishing platform allows users to share their views and opinions on various topics, and become influencers in their respective fields. However, social media marketing on LinkedIn is a whole different ball game than marketing on networks like Facebook and Twitter.

With the help of some tips one can become a LinkedIn Influencer:

1. Curate and Share Great Content:

Gaining influencer status on LinkedIn requires effort. You will have to invest time in creating fresh content and sharing others’ content that is relevant to your industry. Doing this will help you build influence and you won’t necessarily have to “sell” your products or services, because your content will gradually start doing it for you.
Of course, you won’t see a massive spike in followers and connections as soon as you publish your first post – it will require some patience and perseverance. If you are wondering how you can share and publish fresh content consistently, there are various tools you could try.

(A)DrumUp: DrumUp is a content curation and scheduling tool that searches the web to find relevant content for your industry, and also lets you share the content to your LinkedIn page. You can schedule the recommended posts, and even create your own, customized posts to make them more personable.

(B)Storify: Storify helps you find breaking news stories, and updates on live events and campaigns that are relevant to your industry. You can also create and modify your posts using Storify and share them with your colleagues.

(C)Feedly: Feedly is an RSS reader that streams content from different blogs and newsletters based on what you add to your feed. You can easily organize the content depending on the category and also view the popularity of the content.

2. Produce Long Form Content:

Create original content with LinkedIn’s native publishing platform. Generally, all original posts on LinkedIn are over 350 words in length. But you should try and publish longer posts (600-1000 words) since it gives you an opportunity to share your expertise in a given topic.

Of course, you can’t become a LinkedIn influencer by publishing long posts alone, but it is definitely a stepping stone. Any posts you create will appear on your LinkedIn profile, so it is vital to have well-written and well-structured posts. You should also be proactive and engage with other users by sharing your comments on posts they’ve published and replying to their comments on your posts.

If you’re publishing original content, take a closer look at your posts and see how they can be improved to reach a wider audience. It goes without saying that you should never post anything that could jeopardize your reputation because your LinkedIn profile is essentially your identity on the network.

3. Earn and Build Your Followers:

The LinkedIn publishing platform gives you an opportunity to earn followers and also follow others who publish on the network. This lets you interact with users who are interested in similar topics as you. When you publish informative and engaging content, you are attracting the desired users and not just randomly adding people to your network.

A good rule of thumb is to follow other influencers on LinkedIn. You can observe and learn from the practices they adopt and understand the kind of content they publish to gain more loyal followers.

4. Keep Blogging Update:

Even if you are publishing posts regularly on LinkedIn, it’s important to keep your existing blog intact. Don’t treat your LinkedIn profile as your primary blog because you don’t own your profile. Instead, think of it as an additional channel where you can distribute content. Keep creating new posts on your blog as well because you most likely have already built a readership that you don’t want to lose.

Top 10 Winners in Organic Search Growth Year-Over-Year

Top 10 WinnersIt was recently published by SimilarWeb detailing the top 10 sites that grew their organic search traffic in 2015 compared to 2014. Roy Hinkis of SimilarWeb explains the study’s methodology:

“To determine the biggest winners in year-over-year search growth we looked at the top 10,000 sites, judged by volume of traffic from organic search in of 2015, and compared this traffic to the same period in 2014. Of these sites, we discarded any that showed a negative trend in search traffic and only looked at sites that grew by 1% or more.”

Quora took home the crown of greatest percent increase in organic search traffic, growing 120% in 2015 over 2014. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact Quora’s search traffic came from 95% non-branded key phrases. This is in contrast to other sites on the list, like YouTube and Pinterest, where branded search terms make up half of their organic traffic.

In terms of pure traffic numbers alone, YouTube beat the others handily, although it only saw a 1% increase in search traffic. You can view the original chart in the study with the winners ranked by search traffic. I’ll reorder the top 10 winners here for a quick look at those with the greatest percent increases in search traffic year-over-year.

  1. Quora, up 120%
  2. Redit, up 73%
  3. Washington Post, up 51%
  4. Netflix, up 50%
  5. CNN, up 42%
  6. StackExchange, up 11%
  7. Pinterest, up 9%
  8. StackOverflow, up 8%
  9. USPS, up 3%
  10. YouTube, up 1%

In addition to ranking the overall top 10 sites, the SimilarWeb study ranks the top 10 sites by category.

Pros & Cons Of Twitter Advertising

Twitter bird announceAccording to the internet research firm Global Web Index (GWI), Twitter was the fastest growing internet marketing firm during the last six months of 2012 and nearly half a billion internet users have a Twitter account. With this statistics in mind, it comes as no surprise that more and more businesses are looking at Twitter advertising which is a relatively unexplored marketing area.

There are essentially two ways to advertise on twitter. First is through Twitter promoted accounts. On the left side of Twitter’s current layout, there’s a section on the left side that says “Who to follow.” Through this advertising option, Twitter will display your profile prominently in this section. Needless to say this option is suitable for those who are looking to expand their Twitter network. The second option is through Twitter promoted Tweets. Promoted Tweets can be displayed at the top of your followers’ timelines if the Tweet you chose to advertise is relevant to them. Twitter promoted Tweets can also show at the top of the search results and is triggered by related search terms.

Just like any other advertising medium, Twitter has its own advantages and disadvantages and the best practices on how to advertise on Twitter are still being discovered. Based on status quo, below is a rundown of the positives and the negatives of Twitter advertising to help you decide whether this is something that can benefit your or not.

The Pros of Twitter Advertising:

Probably the main advantage of Twitter advertising is the quality of audience you are able to generate and reach. Twitter evaluates whether to show your ad or not to a particular user based on different factors such as recent activities and even who they are following. This way, Twitter is able to create a good assessment whether someone will actually be interested in your Tweets or your company. This can lead to a high level of engagement and can even help in conversion optimization.

The Cons of Twitter Advertising:

On the downside, Twitter advertising for individuals does not have an analytics dashboard that details the demographics of those who clicked on a promoted tweet or who followed a promoted account. If you’re someone who loves data, this can be a disappointment.

Some US Sites Listed Gained The Highest Google visibility

We recently looked at the UK sites that made the biggest SEO gains in 2015, but now it’s time to cross the pond to see which US sites did the best last year.

Juan González the SEO & Country Manager at Sistrix spent a considerable amount of time last week evaluating 200 domains, and has given us an exclusive look at the top 100.

Please note, we haven’t included any adult-entertainment websites in this list – of which there were only three. Also, as there were no major Google updates in 2015, most of these problems were “home-made by the website operators.”

1) Choicehotels.com

choice-hotels-visibility

In May 2015 Choice Hotels consolidated all of its domains – comfortsuites.com, qualityinn.com, comfortinn.com and many more – into the main domain of choicehotels.com.

The redirects are sound but the only hazard may be the fact the consolidated domains still return a 200 status code when a Googlebot useragent visits. It might be a good idea for them to fix this potential cloaking problem soon.

2) Quora.com

Basically, Quora has cornered the market when it comes to Q&A sites, and has very impressive URLs like https://www.quora.com/Can-I-burn-an-audio-CD-on-a-DVD-R-and-have-it-behave-as-a-CD-R-so-I-can-play-it-in-all-cars-and-players which themselves rank for almost 100 Keywords on Google.

3) Groupon.com

Groupon managed to massively build up their /coupons/stores/ directory during 2015, so that now a good 33% of the top 10 keywords for the entire domain are generated in this directory.

Looking at the top keywords for the entire domain, there are 65,338 top 100 keywords but only 2,545 top 10 keywords, so there’s quite a bit of room for improvement.

4) Angieslist.com

The crowd-sourced local business review site may be massive when it comes to indexed pages (more than 30 million), though it seems that its quality is not what Google wants.

Out of more than 30 million indexed pages, we found only about 32,000 URLs in the Top 100 results, with less than 1,300 URLs making it into the Top 10.

Add a Blog to Boost Your Website’s Online Visibility

images1Popular search engines have specific strategies for scrutinizing and evaluating websites. The one characteristic they all search for is original high-quality content updated regularly.  Blogs are very effective, yet simple marketing tools. When you write exclusive content about what is happening in your business segment, you can use your individual insight and knowledge to provide outstanding service to current and prospective customers, and your website’s online existence. This is a very simple method of adding a new dimension to your company’s website, while boosting your content and with any luck, your online visibility. Choose a specialist SEO writer to make sure that you get the best possible response on your blog’s performance.

Exclusive content of the highest quality, using meticulously researched keywords and interesting titles on every page, is what your business website should aim to achieve. The same is true for a blog. The blog content should also create an instantaneous impact, while boosting your website ranking in the long-term. The articles on your blog will be archived and remain on your website for an indefinite period and will support the optimization of the other content while it provides a very important source for keywords. The best part of writing a blog is that it does not take up too much time. A few short posts through the week and some comprehensive articles, when there is an important event or breaking news, will keep the blog updated while attracting search engine spiders. The amount of effort you put into your blog, the website and the SEO effort, will determine how well you achieve your goals. Whatever you do, remember that quality and clarity of the content you use on your blog or website is imperative.
