A three-peat! Classic sitcom Three's Company to be turned into a movie by legendary producer of Cocktail

It was the classic sitcom that entertained a whole generation of fans.

And now hit 70s show Three's Company is to be turned into a Hollywood film by the legendary Cocktail producer Robert Cort.

The ABC show revolved around the wacky escapades of a man and two women who lived together at a time when such living arrangements were far from the norm.

Indeed they even pretended the fellow, who was played by John Ritter, was gay so their landlord would not disapprove of their domestic setup. 

Of course he was in fact a very red-blooded US Navy vet, which led to all sorts of hilarious escapades and innuendo, enough indeed for the show to last for eight seasons as one of America's top rated shows between 1977 and 1984

Ritter, who died in 2003, ended up becoming a sex symbol due to his role, and he eventually won a prestigious double of won an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award in 1984 for his memorable turns.

The premise was not completely original however, as the show was based on the superior British sitcom Man About the House, which starred the incomparable Richard O'Sullivan.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, studio New Line Cinema is in negotiations to acquire the rights and have lined up Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein to write the screenplay.

The dynamic duo previously wrote the #2009 hit He’s Just Not That Into You, the Ben Affleck romantic comedy which made a fortune at the box office despite awful reviews.

Producer Robert Cort is the brains behind such classics as Three Men And A Baby and Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Perhaps his most memorable movie is the Tom Cruise 1988 sex and sand comedy drama Cocktail, which was a massive hit with audiences despite being given a critical pasting, eventually raking in almost $172 million at the box office.
