Prince's Paisley Park compound is known to contain a vast array of the superstar's awards and accolades but it also holds thousands of secret tracks that have never been released.
Those who have worked with Prince say his Minnesota mansion has an underground vault full of unreleased material that can keep his legacy alive for more than a century.
Fans of the star, who died yesterday aged 57, have been speculating for years about a huge maximum-security room containing up to 2,000 hidden tracks.
Hip Hop Facts tweeted the news, saying 'Prince had a place called "The Vault" where he stored unreleased material'. Fans of the star have been speculating for years about a huge maximum-security vault
Prince (pictured in 1985) has died aged 57 at his estate in Minnesota, just days after he was rushed to hospital from his private plane with severe flu
But now his sound engineer Susan Rogers has confirmed the rumours are true - adding that the vault contains an unreleased song called Moonbeam Levels.
She described the track, which Prince recorded in July 1982, as 'beautiful' and labelled it one of his finest works, reports the Daily Express.
Rogers, who joined Prince's team in 1983, wanted to create a space where the icon's legacy could be stored, so started collecting his work in the vault.
'It became a bit of an obsession…I wanted everything he's ever recorded right here,' she told the paper.
Saxophonist Eric Leeds, who worked with Prince, said that the star would often jam with other musicians but would get bored after recording a few tracks and the work would never be published.
Leeds added they once jammed at Pailsley Park for 45 minutes working on a project called The Flesh but it got shelved in vault after three days.
The superstar musician combined rock, R&B, soul and hip-hop to create a unique sound that led to him selling more than 100million records during his 40-year career
Prince was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1958 and started making music at the age of seven.
He first found fame in the late 1970s and over the next three decades became known as one of the most inventive and eccentric forces in American pop music.
He became even more famous with the release of the film Purple Rain in 1984, a seemingly autobiographical movie set in the club scene in Minneapolis.
The film was a huge success and the soundtrack album spent 24 weeks at the top of the charts and sold more than 13million copies.
He is also the only solo artist to have the number 1 movie, album and single in the United States at the same time. The Beatles are the only the group.
The legendary singer and songwriter is best known for hit songs such as Raspberry Beret and Little Red Corvette.
He was fiercely protective of his independence, battling his record company over control of his material and even his name.
In 1993, Prince legally changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol - also known as the Love Symbol. During that phase, he was referred to as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince.
After changing his name back to Prince, he was sometimes called The Artist Formerly Known as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince.
