next funding round deadline - sunday 22 may 2016
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has forecast that 30% of the world's species of wildlife will disappear over the next 50 years – zoos around the world are playing a critical role in helping prevent this.
As well as supporting our own staff to develop or utilise their specialist skills and participate in field conservation initiatives, Auckland Zoo also provides financial resources for external organisations and individuals to carry out vital field conservation work.
One of the ways we provide this financial support is through our Small Grants Programme.
Level of funding
The Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund Small Grants Programme exists to help provide relatively small levels of funding for ongoing projects or pilot programmes with clear conservation value.
This programme of funding is open to individuals or organisations for projects in New Zealand or for projects in countries outside the First World - though applicants can be based anywhere in the world.
Small grants will be awarded up to a maximum of NZD$5000. However, in most cases, successful grants will be in the region of NZD$1000 - $3000. The amount applied for through the programme should represent a minimum of 25% of the project's overall budget.
Funding deadlines
We accept applications to the Small Grants Programme throughout the year, but only two rounds of grants are made.
Next funding round deadline:- Sunday 22 May 2016 (outcomes are announced approximately 6 weeks after deadline)
