Phil Spector has filed for divorce from his third wife of 10 years because she is splashing out on luxury sports cars, jets and homes with his money while he remains behind bars, TMZ reports.

The 76-year-old music producer married Rachelle Short in 2006, just one month before he was charged with the murder of actress Lana Clarkson, who was shot in the head in Spector's California mansion.

Spector is only reportedly allocated $300 a month as he continues to serve 19 years to life for second-degree murder in the California State Prison’s Health Care Facility in Stockton.

Rachelle Spector, a 35-year-old waitress-turned-pilot, has dropped $350,000 of her husband's money on a plane according to TMZ.

The gossip website also said she purchased two homes for her mother, as well as a Ferrari, Aston Martin and expensive jewelry.

Rachelle has denied allegations she is a 'gold digger', although she posts photographs of her lavish lifestyle on Instagram.

She told the LATimes in 2009: 'Younger woman, older man, gold digger, whatever. I don't take anything from my husband, and I never have. I'm a good person, but people don't see any of that or know how hard I work.'

Meanwhile, Spector, who is given a $300 allowance from his $35million fortune each month, has asked his daughter Nicole Audrey Spector, whom he fathered with former assistant Janis Savala, to take care of his finances, TMZ reported.

Spector was first married to Annette Merar, the lead vocalist of 1960s pop group Spector's Three which he managed and produced.

He allegedly left her for Ronnie Bennett of the girl group the Ronettes, and the two were married from 1968 to 1974.

Ronnie, who claims she was held a prisoner in Spector's mansion during their relationship, sued the music producer for unpaid royalties in 2000 and won $2.9million.

Spector and Rachelle married in 2006, and she became a tabloid figure who maintained his innocence and appeared in court during his murder trial to offer her support.

He was found guilty in 2009 of shooting Lana Clarkson in the foyer of his sprawling California mansion.

Spector's initial trial in 2007 for the murder of Clarkson, who died from a gun shot wound to the head, ended in a deadlocked jury.

But a second jury in 2009 found him guilty of second degree murder with a sentence of 19 years in prison.

Throughout both hearings Spector's high-priced defence team had claimed that Miss Clarkson killed herself in a fit of despair over her fading film career.

Spector had met the struggling actress, 40, at a Hollywood nightclub where she was working as a hostess at the time, and invited her back to his Alhambra mansion.
