'He's made out to be this bad boy': Danny Dyer's long-term partner Joanne Mas defends relationship with 'chilled' EastEnders star

Although he plays caring family man Mick Carter on EastEnders, British actor Danny Dyer has always had a bit of a ‘bad boy’ reputation off-screen.

But speaking in a new interview, the star’s long-term girlfriend, Joanne Mas, has defended her man despite reports of his infidelities and drug taking.

‘Danny has never not loved his kids. He has never not loved me,’ she told The Mirror.

The unmarried couple – who have daughters Dani, 18, Sunnie, seven and 15 month-old baby son Arty - have known each other since they were 14 years old.

And although the 37-year-old actor has admitted to cheating on his long-suffering partner in the past, Joanne has remained loyal and has stood by him.

‘I wear the trousers in the relationship,’ she added. ‘I’m a “nice” bully and the boss of the house. Danny is so chilled. I read articles about him and I think, “That’s not my Dan”.

‘He’s made out to be this bad boy but that’s not the Danny I live with. People might think I’m walking round the house with armour to protect myself but it’s not like that. He’s calm, he’s chilled.’

After being together for 19 years, Joanne admits she would like to walk down the aisle at some point in her life but the chance of it happening is unlikely because ‘Danny doesn’t believe in marriage’.

Meanwhile, earlier this week Danny was pictured out and about with his youngest daughter around the corner from the BBC soap's set.

It seems the star is in need of a well-earned break from filming as last year he was in more EastEnders episodes than any other cast member.

He joined the soap on Christmas Day, 2013, as loveable Mick along with his family who took over the running of the Queen Vic.

In recent months, the Carter family's happy beginnings in Albert Square soon turned sour when Mick's wife Linda (Kellie Bright) fell pregnant after being raped by Dean (Matt Di Angelo) - her husband's brother.

In upcoming scenes, Linda will contact the police to report Dean for raping her.
