Rachel Roy cancels event due to a 'personal emergency' amid Beyonce fan backlash over claims she had an affair with Jay Z

As whispers turned into loud buzzing, this designer has found herself the target of online vitriol.

Rachel Roy pulled out of a personal appearance at the last minute on Monday after Beyonce's release of her visual album Lemonade caused the internet to explode with accusations the designer may have come between the singer and her husband Jay Z.

According to Buzzfeed, the 42-year-old was scheduled to speak at the seminar Mastering Your Métier in New York on Monday night but attendees were advised Monday morning the designer had cancelled.

Those attending, the site reports, received an email saying: 'Due to a personal emergency, Rachel Roy has had to cancel this evening’s event. Our apologies for any inconvenience.'

Rachel's' representative did not respond to Buzzfeed when they sought clarification over what was the personal emergency.

The clothing designer found herself under siege as rumours she had an affair with Jay Z once again surfaced after Beyonce hinted the rapper had not been faithful in songs featured on her new album, which was released Saturday.

In her song Sorry, Beyonce sings 'He only want me when I’m not on there / He better call Becky with the good hair.'

Rachel then posted an Instagram which featured the either poorly timed or fierce slap back comment: 'Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always. live in the light #nodramaqueens.'

Rumours that Rachel had been involved with Jay Z had long circulated but Beyonce fans took the Instagram as the designer outing herself as the woman involved.

That was enough for the singer's so-called BeyHive to go on the attack, not just criticizing the designer but also reportedly flooding her Instagram and her teenage daughter's Instagram with negative comments and emojis of bees.

Fans even hacked the designer's Wikipedia page to include references to Jay Z and Lemonade.

In response, Rachel turned her Instagram to private and took to Twitter to defend herself.

Rachel wrote: 'I respect love, marriages, families and strength. What shouldn't be tolerated by anyone, no matter what, is bullying, of any kind.'

Her 16-year-old daughter Ava also posted on Twitter: 'I'm tired of all of the unnecessary bullying, come from a place of kindness.'

Beyonce, for her part, has not addressed her fans behaviour and while she may have outed her husband's behaviour, that also seems to have been forgiven as Lemonade also featured the married pair looking very happy as well as snips of their wedding.

The references to infidelity and Rachel's Instagram follow previous whispers that Jay Z had stepped out on Beyonce has long been rumoured to have culminated in the now infamous elevator fight between Jay Z and Beyonce's sister Solange.

Rachel was at the celebrity packed, invite-only event that is held each year at the Boom Boom Room inside the Standard Hotel following the Met Ball when she and Solange began to argue.

Solange, who posed smiling on the red carpet with Rachel at the same event two years prior, looked 'like a pressure cooker waiting to explode' when she walked up to Rachel at the event a source told Page Six at the time.

Another sourceat the event said that things quickly escalated, and at one point a female guest tried to stick up for Rachel before asking Solange; 'What is your problem?'

That is when Beyonce got involved according to the source, telling the woman; '‘You don’t get to speak to my sister that way.'

Later that night security footage of Solange leaving the event with her sister and Jay Z showed her arguing with the rapper as they got into one of the hotel's elevators.

In the video Solange is seen looking more and more incensed while yelling at her brother-in-law, who remained calm and collected.

Then, Solange can be seen lunging across the elevator while kicking and punching at the rapper, who quickly puts his body up against a wall as a bodyguard holds Solange back.

Throughout the entire fight Beyonce is not seen speaking once or doing anything to stop her sister from attacking her husband.

The video was released a week later, followed soon after by reports that Rachel's alleged affair with Jay Z is what caused the fight.

The fashion designer never commented on the allegations or the fight, but did post a link to her summer collection on Twitter two days after the release of the video, writing; 'The Beach is better!'

That also happens to be the title of a 2007 song by Jay Z.

Rachel, who is of Indian and Dutch ancestry, got her start in fashion interning for the fashion brand Roc-a-Wear, which was owned by Jay Z and Damon Dash.

She eventually rose to the position of creative director for the brand's women's line, while also becoming a prominent member of the Manhattan social scene when she began to date Damon, who had also co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records with Jay Z.

Rachel gave birth to the couple's daughter Ava in 1999 and then, almost a decade later in 2008, a second daughter Tallulah.

They were married in 2005 but divorced just five years later in 2009, and are currently involved in a contentious court battle after Rachel was awarded sole custody of their daughters and granted a three-year restraining orders against Damon for herself and the two girls.
