Supermodel Elle Macpherson, 52, says that maintaining an 'alkaline body' is the key to her ageless appearance, as she insists the very strict diet is not just another fad

  • Elle eats a diet that is virtually devoid of complex carbs and fat
  • She also ensures that she works out every single day
  • A few years ago, Elle was feeling 'run-down', and a doctor told her that her pH balance was off
  • She started taking a daily supplement of super greens and felt much better, so she created her own brand: WelleCo
  • She swears by the brand's Super Elixir Alkalizing Greens, which she says are good for hair, skin, digestion, circulation, and overall wellness

Supermodels tend to have their own special tricks and eating rules to maintain their famous figures, but Elle Macpherson insists fad diets are not for her.

The 52-year-old does, however, swear by her own health product, Super Elixir Alkalizing Greens, which she sells through her company WelleCo.

Elle told The New Potato that in addition to her incredibly healthy diet — which involves downing three whole liters of water every day — she credits maintaining an alkaline body with being the key to looking and feeling great.

Crop it like it's hot in Elle's Melissa Odabash bikini

Elle Macpherson is a whole new level of perfection.

While the supermodel was on holiday, she couldn't resist posing for a few snaps while she soaked up some sun! And she definitely packed well for her trip. We hope there's plenty of room for suitcases on board that yacht...

She's a big fan of swimwear brand Melissa Odabash, and while most of us might window shop, Elle seems to just order one of everything! This crop top combo from the Summer 2015 collection really caught our eye with those mesh panels giving things a sporty spin. The cropped length and long sleeves offer extra coverage than an itsy bitsy triangle bikini, but sadly this exact one is sold out.

We might not be able to help you get a body like Elle's, but modeling your holiday style on her isn't a bad place to start! So with that in mind we've rounded up some similar crop tops in the edit below, with options from MATCHESFASHION, Zappos and Amazon.

Known as 'The Body', Elle has obviously always stuck to a healthy diet. She said breakfast on an 'ideal food day' includes fruit, chia seed pudding, oatmeal, or an egg on spelt toast, followed by espresso and almond cookies.

Lunch is fish and vegetables, and for a snack, she'll make a protein shake or lemonade with cayenne pepper, fruit, and almonds. For dinner, she eats a plant-based protein salad with goat cheese or fish, followed by a bit of dark chocolate for dessert.

She also drinks three liters of water spaced through the day. But despite a diet nearly devoid of fat and complex carbs, the Aussie stunner said that she still didn't feel her best a few years ago.

'I started feeling run-down,' she said. 'I tried an array of supplements, but nothing seemed to do the trick. No matter what I did, I just couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. That’s when I met Simone Laubscher, Ph.D., who specializes in the science of nutrition. She explained that there was one factor in my life that wasn’t balanced: my body’s alkalinity.

Because her pH levels were 'off-kilter', her body wasn't working at its best. So the two got to work on designing a 'personalized blend of super greens' for her to skew her body toward alkaline.

'Ultimately, I’ve learned that an alkaline body and pH-neutral body is a healthier body,' she explained. 'Many people believe that it combats disease, encourages cellular renewal and therefore is anti-aging.'

Elle wanted to bring this knowledge to other people, too, so she started her company, WelleCo, and launched its signature item: the Super Elixir, a vitamin and mineral-packed supplement that she herself takes every day.

'I feel that my body thrives now that I am taking the Super Elixir every day; my workouts are strong, I’ve lost weight around my waist, and my moods are balanced, I don’t have sugar cravings and I just feel on top of my game,' she said. 'In fact, now if I leave home without my green drink in the morning, I turn and go back – my body actually craves it.'

The mix of super greens, Chinese herbs, digestive enzymes, and mushrooms is meant to help the digestive system, the endocrine (hormonal) system, and the circulatory and nervous systems.

Elle also added that the elixir improves her skin, since it helps it hold moisture and promotes cell function.

'Complete cellular nourishment is what it's all about! That means love, nutrients, alkalinity, and water — support on a cellular level,' she said.

Last year, FEMAIL tested out her alkaline theory — and even tried Elle's daily urine tests — to see how well it worked.

In addition to a hyper-managed diet, Elle works out 45 minutes a day doing some sort of sport, like swimming, paddle boarding, running, skiing (in the snow or water), surfing, hiking, or spinning.

Despite choosing activities over gym time, though, she schedules her workouts like an 'important meeting', or else she won't get it done.
