'This is a lot of pressure': Owen Danoff gets sent home on The Voice after he forgets lyrics and voice cracks as field trims to 10

It was the worst possible time for Owen Danoff to have a memory blackout.

The Voice hopeful was singing live in front of millions of TV viewers trying to get their votes to stay on the show and then he suddenly forgot the words.

Owen, 26, was unable to hide his mistake behind the gentle acoustic sounds of his version of Cam's Burning House.

He mumbled his way through a key part of the song with his frustration then making his voice crack as he tried to reach a high note.

Once finished, Adam Levine's team member could only laugh at the mistake he had made and seemed resigned to the decision just minutes later that he was heading home.

Instead, Pharrell William's Daniel Passino, who sang Nick Jonas's upbeat pop single Jealous as he competed for the instant save, got the Twitter votes needed to make the show's top 10.

The judges clearly felt for Owen after his mishap, especially as it was the second week running that he had been in the bottom two and left fighting for his spot.

'Man I don't want you to beat yourself up too much,' Blake Shelton told him after the performance.

'I saw you getting frustrated there with the lyric that wasn't coming to you. Man, this is a lot of pressure, and to be in this spot two weeks in a row only adds to that.

'I want to say to you, one artist to another - I believe in you, and I think you're on the right path. Some artists find their way in different ways. You're on the right path, dude,' Blake encouraged him.

Owen's coach Adam also mentioned his 'tough couple of weeks' but got passionate as he praised his protege.

'He tells the truth, and he's extremely, extremely genuine in the way he does this.

'Personally, I'm so refreshed by that. You always convince me every time that you're being truthful with yourself and that you're being truthful with the audience that you're singing to Personally, that's the most important thing and you have that in spades,' Adam said.

The other nine sent through did not have to perform for their place, instead getting there automatically thanks to viewers' votes.

But Christina and Pharrell both got to sing live with their teams with wildly varying results.

Christina wore a tight black outfit - including super high heels and a bow tie - and gave a spectacular stage spectacle as her team helped her sing Paul McCartney's James Bond classic Live And Let Die.

Surrounded by columns of fire, dry ice, dancers and angelic looking string section dressed in white - with even the audience holding white balloons - Christina seemed to push her team of Bryan Bautista, Nick Hagelin and Alisan Porter to new heights trying to match her soaring vocals.

In comparison, Pharrell wore a Bad Brains t-shirt, sneakers and 'Flea' hat, and looked uncomfortable as he took on Lenny Kravitz's Let Love Rule.

As well as no staging, Pharrell even seemed to struggle to keep up with his proteges Daniel Passino and Hannah Huston as they belted out the rock classic.

Team Blake's Mary Sarah was first to learn she was automatically through, followed by Christina's comeback artist Nick Hagelin, Adam's blues rocker Laith Al-Saadi and then Christina's Alisan.

Next, Pharrell's Hannah Huston, a pre-school teacher, was put through, followed by Blake's Paxton Ingram, Adam's 16-year-old Shalyah Fearing, and Blake's Adam Wakefield.

The final singer automatically through by viewers' vote was Christina's Bryan – giving her a clean sweep and joining Blake in having her whole team of three through to the next round.

The voting left Adam's Owen and Pharrell's Daniel to sing it off for the save.

However, Laith may have had the best week with Carson proudly pointing out that after Pharrell encouraged viewers to buy his previous albums he was now number one in the iTunes blues chart.

'Oh man I am so honored - I have two albums in the top 10 in the rock chart, too, and I'm just blown away,' he said, telling Pharrell: 'I cannot thank you enough for encouraging people to listen to my music.'

'You're our own Beyonce,' Carson quipped of his success.

Blake, meanwhile, admitted that he was only in it for the bragging rights if his artist wins.

'Having all three of my team move forward tonight means I'm one step closer to being able to go, ''You suck! Hahaha!''' he admitted, pointing to the other coaches.

Thomas Rhett opened the show with his new single T-Shirt with the audience all waving around white T-shirts.

'The future of country music certainly in very good hands,' host Carson Daly said after his performance.
