Ryan Gosling looked downcast when he was spotted out in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The Notebook actor, 35, kept his sunglasses on as he walked through a parking lot in casual attire that consisted of a white shirt, blue jacket and black jeans.

This comes just days after it was revealed his partner Eva Mendes, 42, suffered a great loss when her brother Carlos Mendez died at the age 53 after a long battle with cancer.

The star has been busy in the past few weeks promoting his new movie The Nice Guys with Russell Crowe.

Eva's older sibling died on April 17, according to social media updates from family members.

Three weeks ago the mother-of-one and partner of Ryan Gosling posted a touching photo of Carlos as they attended an event together. The caption was simply a single heart.

Her other brother Juan Carlo Mendez - Eva had changed her name from Mendez to Mendes when she started acting - posted a moving tribute on Instagram: 'With absolute pain and sadness in my heart this is the hardest thing I've ever had to go through in my life and as I'm writing this I'm still in disbelief.

'My brother has passed away peacefully this morning. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for those who have prayed and have kept my brother in your thoughts and who wished him to get better.

'He fought with all his might and power and gave cancer one hell of a fight. He leaves behind behind a 13 year old and a 5 year old. I love you my brother may god bless you and I'll see you once again.'

He added that a service in the Los Angeles area was taking place on Tuesday and posted the invite. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Juan Carlos' children.

Eva's rep did not return calls to DailyMail.com.

In March 2015 Star magazine revealed the Training Day star was 'devastated' that her brother had been diagnosed with cancer.

'She is such a family-oriented person, this is absolutely devastating.' a source told the weekly.

The 2 Fast 2 Furious star did all she could to help her sibling, it was added.

'She is pulling out all the stops and making sure Carlos has the best doctors available,' stated the insider. 'Eva feels money is no object when it comes to Carlos' health.'

The Lost River actress spoke about her brother when she appeared at a Stand Up To Cancer event in January 2015.

It was presented by the Entertainment Industry Foundation and chaired by CAA agent Jim Toth and his wife Reese Witherspoon.

'Tonight I'm here with my family and my brother Carlos, who had [cancer] treatment today,' the beauty announced.

Eva is pregnant with her second child with partner Gosling, according to UsWeekly. The two already have a daughter, Esmeralda, 20 months.
