Olympic gold medalist Leisel Jones has opened up about her blossoming relationship with her 'super smart' business manager boyfriend.

The swimmer also spoke about how she previously found it difficult to meet people when she took to the red carpet for the premiere of the Queen musical We Will Rock You in Sydney on Thursday.

She looked effortlessly cool in a khaki shirt, black skirt and black trainers for the event at the Lyric Theatre in the Star Casino.

Leisel, who split from former AFL footballer Marty Pask in 2008, revealed that she met her new flame Damon Martin through mutual friends.

'We're having a bit of fun,' she told Daily Mail Australia.

'It's hard to meet people in Sydney and it's hard to find friends and be casual and relaxed. We're pretty lucky

'He's super fun, very smart. He's super duper smart which is really important to me. He's got a great brain.'

The 30-year-old also spoke for the first time about her plans to start a new fashion line.

She said her boyfriend, who accompanied her to the event, was teaching her to become more 'business minded'.

'I want to be more creative. It's something a bit different for me. It keeps you occupied and busy,' she said.

She said she would be designing clothes for the new line which will be released in September or October.

'It's a different life and you have to get used to it. It takes a few years to get used to having a different job and a different focus.

'It's all about learning. Some days are harder than others. It's all about adjusting.'

The swimmer, who successfully claimed nine Olympic medals across four separate Games, has previously opened up about her private battle with depression in 2004.

She released a memoir last year called Body Lengths, detailing the overwhelming pressure and constant taunting she endured during her career.

She revealed she was 'actively encouraged' to skip meals in an effort to lose weight as a teen and felt often ridiculed in front of her peers at thrice weekly weigh in's where coaches used code words to call the young athletes 'fat'.

'Whenever I have to stand on the pool deck in my togs, listening to my body being discussed like it’s an engine and not the arms, legs, thighs and stomach of a teenage girl, I am self-conscious and miserable,' Ms Jones wrote.

Ms Jones said girl's would often sob in the showers after they were 'weighed, weighed and weighed again' as men 'as old as our dads' would pass judgement.

The talented athlete said the constant pressure to be perfect pushed her to diet obsessively, cutting several foods from her diet including a whole year without 'single square of chocolate'.
