Singer Gohar Gasparian Passes Away

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The Queen and Nightingaleof the Armenian opera, the legendary soprano Gohar Gasparian, died Wednesday, announced the Armenian Ministry of Culture. She was 83. Gohar Gasparian was born in 1924 in Cairo, Egypt. She began her musical studies at the local musical school. In 1948 she and her family repatriated to Soviet Armenia,. Since 1949 she sang leading parts in 23 operas and her repertoire included over 500 works. Armenian President Robert Kocharian expressed his condolences for Gasparians death. With deep sorrow I learned about the death of great Armenian soprano, national Soviet artist Gohar Gasparian. She had a great contribution to the consolidation of opera in Armenia and educated several generations of talented singers. Her voice was recognized and loved in the entire world and through her, Armenia was recognized internationally, said Kocharian, according to the presidential press service. I express my deep condolences to all the relatives of Gohar Gasparian, her friends and those who loved her. Her name will remain in the history of Armenian culture forever, the message concluded.
