Nicholas’s paternal grandparents were Aldo P. D’Agosto (the son of William Guglielmo D’Agosto and Maria/Mary Bruezzi) and Josephine A. Bruno (the daughter of Joseph Bruno and Angeline/Angelina Circo). Aldo and Josephine were both born in Nebraska, and all of their parents were Italian (with Angeline being from Siracusa).

Nicholas’s maternal grandfather was John R. Vellinga (the son of Henry R. Vellinga and Dena/Gerritdina Reinders). Henry and Dena were both born in Iowa. Henry’s father, Reingert Vellinga, was Dutch, and Henry’s mother, Wellie or Nellie Van Der Wilt, was born in Iowa, to Dutch parents. Dena’s father, John G. Reinders, was Dutch. Dena’s mother, Bertha Hofmeyer, was born in Illinois, to Dutch parents, Gerrit J. Hofmeyer and Dena Rienhuis.

Nicholas’s maternal grandmother was Julia Hanson (the daughter of George Allen Hanson and Rebecca Jane Bursell). George was born in South Dakota. George’s father, Elling N. Hanson, was Norwegian. George’s mother, Julia Anderson/Rasmus, was born in Wisconsin, to Norwegian parents. Rebecca had English, Scottish, and Alastian German ancestry. Many of Rebecca’s ancestors had lived in the United States since the 1600s, and some had lived in Canada.

His mother’s ancestry is Dutch and English. Her maiden name, Vellinga, is Dutch. His maternal grandmother’s line has mostly English names.
