From a Madaba website:
Patron of Madaba and Jordan
On December 7, 1967, the Vatican recognized the historic Catholic Church in Madaba, belonging to the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, as a Shrine of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist and urged visitors and pilgrims to visit the sacred site.
In St. Thomas Aquinas’ Adoro te Devote, we sing:
Pie Pellicane, Iesu Domine,
Me immundum munda tuo sanguine.
Cuius una stilla salvum facere
Totum mundum quit ab omni scelere.
Translation:
Lord Jesus, good Pelican, [or "pious"]
wash me clean with your blood,
one drop of which can free
the entire world of all its sins.
More to come... come back after confession. ;-)
