Serena Williams has revealed how she ended up with a cameo appearance in Beyonce's latest music video.

The 34-year-old made a surprise appearance dancing in Sorry, one of the tracks from Bey's much discussed latest album, Lemonade.

'I have known the director since I was like nine years old,' the tennis ace told the Associated Press.

'I know Beyonce pretty well, so they were like, "We would love for you to be in this particular song. It's about strength and it's about courage and that's what we see you as".'

Williams' twerking appearance came on the song which features Beyonce showing her man the stupidity of his cheating ways.

It features the now infamous 'Becky with the good hair' - the woman Jay-Z is supposed to have cheated with, according to many fans' interpretation of the lyrics.

But for Williams there was no such drama attached to her direction for the video.

'She told me that she just wants me to dance, like just be really free and just dance like nobody's looking and go all out. So that wasn't easy in the beginning, but then it got easier,' she said.

This week it was reported that Rachel Roy - one of the women fans believe might be 'Becky' - had her emails hacked in the wake of the scandal.

The fashion designer appeared to invite the accusations upon herself when she shared an Instagram post just hours after the release which read: 'Good hair don't care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always. Live in the light #nodramaqueens.'
