Benedict Cumberbatch and his glamorous wife Sophie Hunter get dressed up for a romantic evening out at the opera

They're never far from each other's side - despite his manic filming schedule.

So it was no surprise to see that Benedict Cumberbatch was using some time away from the set of Sherlock to treat his wife, Sophie Hunter, to a romantic date night.

Stepping out for an evening at the opera in London, held at the Barbican, the 39-year-old actor cut a dapper figure whilst the Theater director slipped into a demure and glamorous monochrome dress.

Heading to a performance of Vincenzo Bellini's Adison e Salvini, the loved-up couple put on a very tender display - sticking close to each other.

Following the performance of the opera, which follows the fortunes of an Italian (Salvini) in Ireland, who falls in love with the eponymous Adelson’s fiancée Nelly, the couple left the arts centre hand-in-hand.

Sophie - who tied the knot with Benedict in March 2015 - wore a typically glamorous wardrobe for her evening out, slipping into a floaty black and white maxi dress.

Featuring a modest V-shaped neckline, the playwright showed just a hint of skin, with her decolletage highlighted subtly by the cut of the dress.

Sophie teamed the summery dress with a pair of open-toed black platforms, which complemented her demure yet chic theme perfectly.

She accessorised her look with an ivory statement necklace - which drew focus away from the slightly plunging neckline - a matching bangle, black clutch handbag and her wedding ring.

Sophie wore her dark tousled tresses loose, allowing her locks to tumble down to her shoulders and frame her pretty features - which she highlighted with a natural palette of make-up.

The Imitation Game star added a classic and laid-back edge to his look by wearing a white shirt open at the neck, while he rounded his look off with a pair of black suede shoes.

Benedict sported his trademark curly dark locks, whilst he also wore a pair of thick-rimmed spectacles.

The couple - who have one child together, 11-month-old Christopher - weren't the only famous faces at the opera.
