'She's a modern day Marilyn Monroe': New Paris Hilton documentary will explore 'worldwide icon's' impact on young women

She is not the first name that springs to mind when the term 'worldwide icon' is employed.

But Paris Hilton has been likened to bombshell movie legend Marilyn Monroe after it was announced she will be the focus of a new documentary that will explore her impact on young women.

It is a thrilling development, as the reality television personality has not had much on-screen success since her infamous show The Simple Life was cancelled away back in 2007.

According to Variety, directors Don Argott and Sheena Joyce said: 'Paris Hilton is a modern day Marilyn Monroe — beautiful, iconized, world famous, shaped by mass media and misunderstood.

'We are thrilled to work with Paris to explore her complicated relationship with the public, the press and the politics that shape our perception of a modern celebrity.'

It certainly sounds like a riveting picture, as it will see the 35-year-old talk about rising to fame, explain how being a celebrity has affected her life and, most excitingly of all, look at how her image has impacted young women today.

It will be produced by Paris, Jamie Freed and 9.14 Pictures, while XYZ Films will executive produce.

In many ways Paris was a precursor for Kim Kardashian, as they both became notorious worldwide following the release of a sex tape, had disastrous tilts at launching pop careers and found success in the heady world of reality television.

Indeed Kim first garnered attention due to her the close friendship with Paris, who she worked for as her stylist, though this fell somewhat by the wayside after Kardashian became a star in her own right.

As the now Mrs Kanye West star rose, Paris' faded, though she has since rebranded herself as a self-styled superstar DJ. Indeed, shooting for her documentary is due to kick off in European EDM stronghold Ibiza.

The exciting development came after a failed stab to recapture her reality television crown with the show Paris Hilton's My New BFF, which aired in 2007 to 2008.

It was cancelled after just two series, though she did insist producers from around the world 'were calling all the time' in the hope of making their own version.
