What took them so long? Why did it take until the last possible minute for Chelsea to realise what they could be losing in John Terry? I'm not saying Chelsea owed it to Terry to offer him a contract because of his long service. They didn't. Nor am I suggesting the defender who has played this season is playing like he did 10 years ago. He isn't. Those points must be stressed. There is a bigger picture. Chelsea shouldn't be looking at Terry and thinking about what he will offer to the team over the 10 months of next season. They should look at the next 10 years, working out whether he could become a manager, a head of the academy or a director of football.
Rashford's rapid rise continues as Man United striker is set to join England for training ahead of Euro 2016
MATT LAWTON: It is understood the 18-year-old, who has burst onto the scene this season with seven goals in 16 games for United this season, was discussed in the meeting between Roy Hodgson and his coaching staff on Tuesday before the England manager decided to postponed the naming of his squad from Thursday of this week to Monday of next week. Hodgson intends to name a 23-man squad with a list of standby players, with the option to make changes until he has to submit his final party for the tournament on May 31.
I've had so many 'pinch me' moments I'm starting to get sore, says Foxes hero King
EXCLUSIVE: As a ball boy at Chelsea 12 years ago, Andy King used to pray for a position just behind the goal. 'If you got stationed there then you knew you might get your head on Match of the Day,' King recalled with a smile this week. On Sunday, back at Stamford Bridge, King will get his head on Match of the Day. He's back at his boyhood club with Leicester City, back as a Barclays Premier League champion. There will be a guard of honour from the deposed champions for the new ones. It will be another surreal day in a surreal season. 'I had my winner's medal on for about 48 hours straight but I have finally taken it off now,' said King. 'It has a couple of chips on it already where I've bashed it. I think I whacked it on the table at a party.
As Allardyce, Howe and Pardew battle on, homegrown coaches are a dying breed... for the first time ever there's no English boss in the top 10
The health of English managers is taking another hit. Not quite dead, but not far off. The reality is that as this remarkable Premier League season draws to a close, the door is closing on homegrown managers in the top flight. Not only will this be the first Premier League season in which no English manager finishes in the top half of the table but 2015-16 has also seen the fewest number of English managers surviving to the final bell.
Wallace wonder goal sets Owls on their way as Lee adds gloss to close in on Wembley
SHEFFIEWLD WEDNESDAY 2-0 BRIGHTON - JACK GAUGHAN AT HILLSBOROUGH: Ross Wallace hammered every ounce of power through his blistering hit and earlier questions over the legitimacy of a goal adjudged offside were long forgotten. A balmy evening in which Brighton were left counting the cost of four injuries was wonderfully lit by a sensational strike befitting the Premier League by a man who's already twice tasted promotion up there.
After their failure to land £28m Sanches, who else did Man United chief Woodward allow to slip through the net?
JACK GAUGHAN: Ed Woodward is primed for the most important transfer window of his Manchester United tenure this summer. The Premier League is becoming even richer next season and as such, the gap between top and bottom narrows. Yet Woodward does not have the best record when it comes to recruitment. The executive vice-chairman is overseeing a huge overhaul of the transfer process at Old Trafford, but Sportsmail looks at some of the players who have got away during his time in charge.
Liverpool's Alberto Moreno is fired up for Europa League final: I cried when I left Sevilla... now I want to break their hearts
PETE JENSON - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: It was one of the first phrases Liverpool's full back mastered, and the 'Unbelievable, Jeff' catchphrase has taken on even more significance for Alberto Moreno in recent weeks. It was his response to his Liverpool team-mates back in the dressing room at the end of their epic Europa League quarter-final comeback win over Borussia Dortmund. He then repeated it - in hilarious fashion because of his Spanish accent - in front of the cameras before the semi-final win over Villarreal. And it will sum up the season if he beats his old Sevilla side on Wednesday to win the Europa League.

MIKE DICKSON: Andy Murray has given himself an excellent chance of making a first Italian Open final after stopping the in-form David Goffin in his tracks.

No fairytale for Quins chief O'Shea as Montpellier power home in Challenge Cup
CHRIS FOY IN LYON: It was meant to have been a glorious send-off for their departing director of rugby, but instead of a farewell gift for Conor O'Shea, it all ended in tears for Harlequins in the Challenge Cup final. They were gallant and refused to go quietly, but the London club couldn't withstand the class and power of Montpellier.
Vunipola ditches the attitude and grows up: 'I used knock-backs as an excuse. Things don't get in my head now'
He's different now; more mature, more at ease. Billy Vunipola has risen from the depths of his lowest ebb by regaining his faith and humility, and shedding the 'arrogant' streak he had two years ago. The trouble began with Saracens' last appearance in European rugby's showpiece - in its previous guise as the Heineken Cup. They lost to Toulon in Cardiff and domestic despair followed a week later with a last-play defeat against Northampton at Twickenham in the Aviva Premiership final.

EURO 2016 COUNTDOWN
Is this the France squad to win the Euros? Schneiderlin left out of 23 as Deschamps names Kante, Payet, Martial and Giroud
Didier Deschamps has confirmed that Lyon winger Mathieu Valbuena will not feature for France at this year's European Championship. Deschamps, who announced his 23-man squad that will represent the host nation of this summer's tournament, said the player had struggled for fitness and he didn't want to risk him. 'He suffered a lot of injuries, and also faced great competition for places this season,' he told France television channel TF1 on Thursday.

Barca boss Enrique has no doubt his star-studded squad can cope with final-day pressure as Messi and Co aim for tile
Barcelona coach Luis Enrique said he trusted his team to handle the occasion of this weekend's season finale at lowly Granada, where a win would guarantee their 24th La Liga title. Barcelona are top on 88 points, one ahead of Real Madrid who visit mid-table Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday hoping to pounce on any slip-up by their rivals and snatch a first title since 2012.

Saturday's visit to Deportivo La Coruna is certainly Real Madrid's biggest game of the season so far as they cling on to the hope of pipping Barcelona to the La Liga title.
Last-gasp McHugh strike puts Bairns into Scottish Premiership play-off final
JOHN MCGARRY AT FALKIRK STADIUM: That Peter Houston's side emerged from this titanic tussle to face Kilmarnock over two legs by the narrowest of margins will not trouble them in the slightest. An injury-time goal by Bob McHugh proved the difference between two sides so evenly matched this season that heavy machinery might have struggled to separate them.

Crystal Palace hosted a glitzy awards bash in London ahead of the Premier League club's first FA Cup final since 1990 later this month. And with plenty to look forward to, the south Londoners celebrated in style as Wilfried Zaha scooped the Player of the Year award with his impressive performances for the Selhurst Park outfit this term.
New-build boom! Half of Premier League stadiums next season have been built after 1995 amid steady demise of older grounds
After Sunderland's survival and West Ham's exit from Upton Park the Premier League is poised to become a celebration of the modern stadium. If Hull, Derby of Brighton clinch the final place via the play-offs, rather than Sheffield Wednesday, half of the top-flight will be playing next season in venues built since 1995. Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium sparked the great stadium-building project which followed Hillsborough and the Taylor Report's demands for modernisation.

Wilcox records first hole-in-one in 6,300 attempts at the famous island 17th on TPC Sawgrass
DEREK LAWRENSON AT TPC SAWGRASS: When American journeyman Will Wilcox stepped on to tee at the signature 17th hole here on Friday there had been 6,300 shots played since the last hole in one, achieved by Miguel Angel Jimenez in 2002. That long drought came to an end when the wiry 29 year old played a shot he will remember for the rest of his days. His tee shot bounced four feet from the hole, took a little hop to the left before disappearing to provoke scenes of euphoria from the protagonist.
Rwanda captain breaks world record with incredible 51 hour net... and he even faced down Tony Blair!
Cricket is a sport famous for dogged efforts lasting multiple days - think Michael Atherton's famous 185 in Johannesburg or Alastair Cook's epic 263 last year. But one man has just put those achievements in the shade, by batting for an astonishing 51 hours, without a break. Rwandan captain Eric Dusingizimana has set a world record for time in a net, as he completed a marathon effort on Friday after batting solidly for more than two days.
