'A new adventure': CBS presents teaser video for Star Trek series promising fresh heroes and more villains in 2017

Star Trek will be embark for the far reaches of space again with new crews, villains, heroes and worlds to explore.

A new 50-second teaser for the upcoming reboot of the long-running franchise was screened on Wednesday by CBS during its upfront presentation for advertisers in New York City.

The network during its upfronts mostly focused on it new shows for the upcoming season, but gave fans a sneak peek of the new Star Trek that will debut in 2017.

The teaser opened with a familiar view of Earth and the Moon, but the stars in the background soon started streaking indicating warp travel.

'CBS presents a new adventure', said a deep voice-over.

A blue planet was shown fragmenting followed by a run through an asteroid belt and then another Earth-like planet that appeared to be dangerously close to an unstable glowing yellow star.

The tagline started with 'New Crews' followed with 'New Villains', 'New Heroes' and 'New Worlds'.

The video then showed the show's new logo that featured a golden striated version of the Starfleet arrowhead.

The teaser at the end included the opening notes of the theme music composed by Alexander Courage for the original 1960s TV show.

The Star Trek reboot is scheduled to premiere in January 2017 with Bryan Fuller, 46, as the series creator and showrunner.

Fuller is a Star Trek veteran as he was previously a contributing writer on Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

CBS Television Studios announced the return of Star Trek in February with the next iteration of the franchise destined for its behind the paywall service CBS All Access.

The series will premiere on CBS with the pilot and subsequent episodes streaming weekly on CBS All Access.

Fuller recently served as the executive producer and writer on NBC's Hannibal that was based on the characters from the book Red Dragon by Thomas Harris.

Star Trek debuted in 1966 on CBS and ran for three seasons featuring William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as the mixed human-Vulcan first officer Mr. Spock aboard the USS Enterprise.

The original series spawned the spin-offs Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; Star Trek: Voyager and the prequel Star Trek: Enterprise.
