The survey by the consumer group Which? found 53 per cent had never contacted a credit rating agency - such as Experian, Callcredit and Equifax - to check their report. And it found widespread confusion about credit checks and how lending decisions are made.

The average price of a home in England will be more than £450,000 in 2030, new research mapping out what house prices could look like across the UK claims. Estate agents eMoov admitted that this was simply a projection of 'what may happen' but said that it had done so not to celebrating such a potential rise but warn of the consequences.

The rise was driven largely in London and the South East. Annual house price increases were registered at 13 per cent in London, 12.2 per cent in the South East and 12.1 per cent in the East of England.
