'Listen Ursula, we want her voice back': Lady Gaga compares music producer Dr. Luke to famous Disney villain as she lends her support to Kesha

Lady Gaga has compared Dr. Luke to a Disney villain.

The singer is horrified that Kesha - who claims the music producer sexually abused her for years - has been banned from performing at the Billboard Music Awards after his label Kemosabe records 'rescinded its approval' following concerns she'd speak out about their ongoing legal battle.

Comparing Luke to The Little Mermaid's malicious Ursula, who steals Ariel's voice, Gaga tweeted: 'Isn't it strange that it's legal to own a woman this way? Listen Ursula, we want her voice back. #freeKesha'.

Gaga also tweeted a link to a story about the controversy, and the post has already amassed 21,000 likes and 16,000 retweets.

The Just Dance singer has been one of Kesha's most vocal supporters in her battle to be released from her contract by Luke's label.

Kesha received an outpouring of support earlier this year after a judge ruled she must continue working at Sony, where producer Dr Luke is still employed.

Lady Gaga, who has spoken out about being raped in the past, tweeted at the time: 'There are people all over the world who love you. And I can say truly I am in awe of your bravery.' 

On Wednesday, Kesha's mother Pebe Serbert called for other musicians to 'refuse to perform' at the Billboard Awards, which are being held on Sunday night.

Serbert's 29-year-old daughter was scheduled to perform but her record label, Kemosabe Records, revoked her permission.

The label is owned by Dr. Luke, whom Kesha accuses of sexually abusing her, and Sony, whom the singer is currently battling in court.

While the label and Dr. Luke had signed off on the performance reportedly after hearing that Kesha may make a statement about the case between them, the company then denied her a chance to perform.

An angry Serbert called for other artists to refuse to perform in support of her daughter.

She wrote on Twitter: 'Wouldn't it be nice if other artists stood with Kesha and refused to preform if she is not allowed to sing!'

The star's mom claimed it was clear the record label was trying to destroy her daughter's career further. 

'Are KEMOSABE's actions today the actions of a record label that is trying to promote the success of their artist?

'Wouldn't any record company fight to have their artist have the exposure to millions? Only if they wanted their artist to succeed!'

Kesha's mom also took aim at the judge handling her daughter's case.  

She tweeted: 'So are Keshas constitutional rights being violated now, judge Lady? Does every adult woman need a mans permission to do what she loves? [sic]

'Does Kesha have the right to pursue her happiness? Or did they only mean that for rich men? 

'In an office, all the boss has to do is touch a woman's butt or breast and that's sexual harassment!! So what is this and where's the police?

'And how can one person OWN another persons right to sing?

'Song is prayer. So can Kesha pray without permission? Where's the line judge lady? [sic]' 

Kesha has also spoken about Dr. Luke's company rescinded its approval taking to Instagram to share her disappointment and deny she planned to protest against Dr. Luke.

'I was very excited to perform a tribute to Bob Dylan by singing a cover of 'It ain't me, babe' at the Billboard awards this year,' the 29-year-old wrote beside a photo of herself playing guitar.

'I'm very sad and sorry to say I won't be allowed to do this,' she added. 

'I just wanted to make very clear that this performance was about me honoring one of my favorite songwriters of all time and has never had anything at all to do with Dr. Luke.

'I was never going to use a picture of him, speak of him or allude to my legal situation in any way. I simply wanted to sing a song I love to honor an artist I have always looked up to.'

And the True Colors singer added: 'Thank u all for the continued support.'

Kesha's ability to perform is limited by her contract with the company, which she is trying to get out of due to alleged abuse.

'Kesha accepted an invitation to perform on the show and she received written approval from Dr. Luke's record label, Kemosabe Records,' said Dick Clark Productions, which produces the awards, in a statement to Billboard on Tuesday.

'Kemosabe subsequently rescinded its approval following a media report on Wednesday May 11 regarding Kesha's appearance on the BBMAs.

'Unfortunately, Kesha and Kemosabe have since been unable to come to an agreement for Kesha to perform on the show,' it said, adding that it hoped an agreement could be made before the show on Sunday.
