'My ex-wife will give you a bad scorecard': Russell Crowe jokes about shared parenting duties with Danielle Spencer as he reveals how he keeps his sons 'grounded'

Hollywood star Russell Crowe is known to enjoy a close bond with his children despite separating from his wife of nine years Danielle Spencer in 2012.

And the 52-year-old father-of-two recently joked about fatherhood during an interview with The Daily Telegraph, published on Saturday, quipping that Danielle wouldn't rate his parenting skills very highly.

The Gladiator star laughed when asked what type of dad he is, and replied: 'Well, if you ask my ex-wife, she'll give you a bad scorecard.'

Russell, who hails from New Zealand, also spoke about how he is able to keep his two sons, 12-year-old Charles and Tennyson, nine, 'grounded'.

Despite enjoying the life of a wealthy film star, Russell makes sure his kids don't take anything for granted and understand their 'privilege'.

'It's very important that they... understand that I have certain privileges in life and I define for them what those privileges are,' said The South Sydney Rabbitohs co-owner.

'"Here it is. We're doing this particular thing. This is who you need to be grateful to." They're both very grounded', he added.

'They've experienced a lot of amazing things because of my job, but they don't take anything for granted and they're humble about their place in the world,' Russell concluded.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Sunday Style, Russell Crowe revealed that he's ready for a new relationship - but says a second marriage is not on the cards.

He confessed: 'There is a craving for some sort of intimacy in the future… and I’m not talking sexually; it is starting to grow inside me again.

'I really need that. I thought I could just tough it out and not worry too much. But you just want the feeling that you have someone you can make a plan with,' said The Nice Guys star.

Despite the admission, Russell said he is doubtful he'll marry again because of his responsibilities as a parent to Charles and Tennyson.

'I have what I feel is an obligation to my kids, to not confuse their lives too much. It’s already pretty tricky for them. There’s life itself, then there’s life as a famous person’s kids.' he added.
