'She's phenomenal!' Shawn Mendes gushes over Fifth Harmony's Camila Cabello but denies they are dating following romance rumours as he covers Seventeen

Looks like it's life in the friend zone.

Dating rumors have been following 17-year-old Shawn Mendes and Fifth Harmony's Camila Cabello, 19, since last year. But the Stitches singer insists their relationship is purely platonic.

Still, Mendes didn't hold back his affection for the Spanish beauty in a recent interview with Seventeen, saying she's 'phenomenal' and 'one of the sweetest girls I've ever met and super, super smart.'

He even dropped the L word, gushing: 'She's phenomenal. I love her. And she's so talented. She's one of the sweetest girls I've ever met and super, super-smart. We aren't dating, but musically she just blows my mind.'

Dating rumors started to heat up when Cabello and Mendes collaborated on last year's, I Know What You Did Last Summer.

The two met on tour in 2014 as openers for Cabello's then-beau, singer Austin Mahone.

Meanwhile, Mendes, who came into the public eye in 2013, says he's focused on finishing his album and on not letting fame get to his head.
