Star Trek Beyond bows action-packed trailer at 50th Anniversary Fan Event with Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto

The latest movie in the rebooted space franchise has been pretty much kept under wraps.

That ended on Friday when an action-packed trailer for Star Trek Beyond hit the screen at the packed 50th Anniversary Star Trek Fan Event on the Paramount Pictures lot in Los Angeles.

Stars Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Mr. Spock) and Karl Urban (Dr. McCoy) plus director Justin Lim and executive producer J.J. Abrams were there to introduce the 2.30 minute clip to the delighted Trekkies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It gives a glimpse of new faces in the Trekkie universe, Idris Elba, who plays the villainous Krall, and Sofia Boutella as alien Jaylah.

The clip starts with the Enterprise battling its way through a deadly meteorite shower.

Then it makes a hyper-space jump to Kirk, Spock and McCoy facing dangerous situations on a strange planet, ending with an all-out adrenaline-fueled space chase.

The trailer reveals more of Kirk's character, as he dishes in one quiet moment: 'My dad joined Starfleet because he believed in it. I joined on a dare.'
