GIRL ABOUT CANNES: Fears for 'recluse' Leonardo DiCaprio as he locks himself away

Leonardo DiCaprio has long been known as the King of Cannes thanks to his love of partying.

But last week friends expressed fears for the Oscar winner over his strange behaviour in which he cancelled his own yacht party – and later took a mile-long helicopter ride to avoid being snapped on the red carpet.

Leo, who took the Best Actor gong this year for The Revenant, should have been the host at one of Cannes’ most hyped parties on Wednesday, but called it off at the last minute.

The star, 41, also failed to show at a Positive Planet dinner.

And in his most eccentric move, Leo hired a helicopter to fly him from his rented hilltop villa to the gardens at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc where an AmfAR party was held – just so that he could avoid posing for photographers.

Observers said his behaviour was reminiscent of Howard Hughes, the reclusive tycoon he played in The Aviator.

A movie insider added: ‘Before the Oscars this year, Leo endured months of promotional work and parties. Now he wants to disappear for a while.’

Who needs bouncers when you are Lady Victoria Hervey?

The socialite, pictured with me, left, was one of the few celebrities not to be flanked by burly security guards during the festival, so she had to personally throw gatecrashers off the yacht she borrowed last week to host a lunch celebrating her new book, The Wristband Diaries.

When Lady V realised there wasn’t enough room for her real friends, she chucked hangers-on overboard!
