The owners of the park claim nobody has committed a new sex offense while living there, but they are often subject to attacks from locals. In 2013, one of the residents was stabbed to death.

Tara Fleming (left) and Steven Weersing (pictured left with Fleming, upper right in the hospital and bottom right showing his scars) were teenagers when a tornado ripped through Joplin, Missouri, on May 22, 2011, killing 158 people and injuring more than 1,000. Fleming, then 17, was with her mother, her brother and one of her brother's friends while the tornado tore down their home. Weersing, who was 16 at the time, was driving around Joplin with friends when they took a turn, heading right into the tornado. He survived with cracked ribs and punctured lungs, then developed infectious black mold and flesh-eating fungus that destroyed the skin, bones and muscles on his chest.

A prolific criminal who shot dead a Massachusetts traffic cop has been gunned down by state troopers after a four-hour stand-off that culminated in a shoot-out in a bedroom. Jorge Zambrano, 35, was at large for 14 hours after shooting married father-of-three Officer Ronald Tarentino, 45, during a traffic stop in Auburn at 12.30am on Sunday. At around 2pm, detectives located the suspect's car outside a home in Oxford, a few miles away from the crime scene. After searching the property they found nothing. They then managed to get inside the apartment next door via the cellar, and began to search the premises. At 6pm, as they went up to a first-floor bedroom, Zambrano burst out of a wardrobe. He shot one of the troopers - a former Navy SEAL and 18-year veteran - who escaped with a minor wound. Another trooper responded by shooting Zambrano, killing him.

The San Diego Padres have been accused of homophobia after the recorded voice of a woman singing the national anthem was played when it should have been sung by the city's Gay Men's Chorus. A hundred volunteer singers from The San Diego Gay Men's Chorus had stepped onto the field to sing the national anthem ahead of Saturday evening's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Petco Park. But they were forced to stand on the field for the duration of the anthem while, instead of their voices, the large crowd heard the woman singing. The chorus slammed the baseball team after the incident, claiming that they were escorted off the field to homophobic taunts, such as 'You sing like a girl'.

An American couple whose son disappeared almost four decades ago have been sent a letter that claims to know the reasons behind his vanishing. Carol Ross, 78, and her 80-year-old husband Bernard Ross Sr received the note to their home in Portland 39 years after Bernard 'Bunny' Ross Jr, then 18, was last seen. Its anonymous writer alleged to have key knowledge of the circumstances surrounding their son going missing, linking Bunny's disappearance with a story in a local newspaper.

A woman killed her husband's puppy to fake a miscarriage after pretending to be pregnant for seven months. Johnny Parker returned home to his trailer in Lawrence County, Alabama, on Wednesday to find his wife Anita covered in blood and body tissue on their bed. Anita, 43, screamed that she'd had a miscarriage and flushed the fetus down the toilet.

Cuban-born Manuel Asensio, 61, who works as a money manager in New York, is charged with burglarizing the Upper East Side home of his ex-wife Emilie Bosak (pictured with Asensio, right) on December 29 last year. But his lawyer Andrew M. J. Bernstein says Asensio arrived earlier than scheduled to pick up their 11-year-old daughter because of a provocative snap Bosak had posted online. That day, Asensio saw a picture of Bosak, a former model, posing in a bikini on the beach while smoking a hand-rolled cigarette (left). Concerned about who was looking after his daughter, he went past the doorman of the building and went upstairs to the apartment, his attorney says.

Joshua Marbury and Alicia Quinney (inset with Jacob) claim they left their one-year-old son Jacob with the babysitter to go on a date night in March. The couple, from Sherwood, say they returned home to find their son screaming and the babysitter fast asleep. They say Jacob was covered in bruises the next morning and they reported the incident to police. However, two months later with no criminal charges being filed, they claim the authorities have let them down. Frustrated, Marbury took to Facebook on Friday to vent that a ruling in Oregon is stopping his son's alleged abuser, who he did not name, from being charged - and posted pictures of Jacob in the bath with extensive bruising on his face (left and right).

Mukesh Kumar, 35, a migrant labourer, was on a visit to Nehru Zoo Park in Hyderabad in southern India with friends on Sunday evening when he inexplicable jumped into a moat surrounding the lion enclosure. From rainbow coloured fruit drinks to vegan-friendly cacao topped beverages - the drink trend's biggest draw card is its visual appeal.
