World No 1 Novak Djokovic was presented with an impressive tennis-themed birthday cake ahead of his bid to win a first French Open title at Roland Garros.

Djokovic spent his 29th birthday in front of assorted media before being presented with the cake, which featured several tiers as well as edible tennis balls and a miniature racket, and a towel embroidered with his name by France's Davis Cup captain Guy Forget.

The Serb, who was upset by Stan Wawrinka in last year's final, will begin his campaign against qualifier Lu Yen-hsun on Monday after being handed a comfortable draw until the semi-finals where he is scheduled to play nine-time champion Rafael Nadal.

Should he win the tournament that has always eluded him, Djokovic will become only the eighth player in history to complete a career Grand Slam of Australian, French, Wimbledon and US titles.

'Of course the expectations are big not just from my side but from people around knowing that this is the only Grand Slam I never won,' he said.

'Of course people are very eager to find out whether or not I can make it this year, and that kind of anticipation existed and it was present also in the last couple of years.'

Djokovic has won 11 career grand slam titles, although he has been denied three times in the finals at the French Open.

However, despite nearing his 30s, Djokovic insists he is 'not obsessed' with winning in Paris at his 12th attempt, which would set a record for the most attempts taken to win the title if he finally prevails.

'Of course I anticipate myself, as everybody else (does), to try to get my hands on this title this year,' he told Sky Sports.

'Even if my career was done tomorrow, I have made some achievements in my life that I must be proud of.

'I don't try to approach things from a point of view of being obsessed with winning this tournament - or any other tournament for that matter.
