The dark dress featured 15 large buttons on the front, which snaked from the hemline up her gym-honed body to her stunning décolletage.

Well aware that her natural beauty packs a major punch, she played a simple make-up game, wearing a subtle pink lip and the lightest dusting of blush to enhance her already enviable cheekbones.

Her ombre locks flowed from dark root to platinum tip and she wore them in a simple part - further proof that she doesn't need over-the-top styling to shine.

Vanessa, who has two children with ex Johnny Depp, sat on the Cannes jury alongside directors Arnaud Desplechin, László Nemes and George Miller, producer Katayoon Shahabi and actors Kirsten Dunst, Valeria Golino, Mads Mikkelsen and Donald Sutherland.

Kirsten challenged Vanessa in the style stakes.

The blonde beauty sported a strapless, semi-sheer lace number that showed off her incredible figure - nipping in at her tiny waist and flaring out with a dramatic train.

Featuring symmetrical lace bodice, the skirt was equally adventurous with clusters of diamonds along the hemline.

Adding further appeal, she kept her accessories to a minimum in order to let the dress do the talking.

And while the red carpet may have belonged to the ladies, the night belonged to British director Ken Loach.

The veteran filmmaker, 79, picked his second Palme d'Or for I, Daniel Blake.

Jury president George Miller described the jury's selection as 'rigorous and happy'.

I, Daniel Blake is a warmly realistic drama about a middle-aged widower in northern England who can neither work nor get government benefits after a heart attack. Loach previously also won the top award for The Wind That Shakes The Barley in 2006.

The Left Wing activist has had 12 films in competition at the Cannes Film Festival through his long career, including The Wind That Shakes The Barley, which took the Palme D'Or in 2006.
