Conor McGregor has scoffed at the idea of only receiving $7million (£4.8m) to fight Floyd Mayweather and says the boxer needs him more than the other way around.

The Irish UFC star opened up for the first time about the prospect of a unique fight with the Money Man after Mayweather said he wanted at least $100million (£70m) for the fight.

Freddie Roach, one of boxing's all-time great trainers, recently revealed he was been contacted by the camp of UFC superstar McGregor over a potential coaching role for the fight.

It seems there is certainly an appetite to face Mayweather but McGregor insists any match-up would be on his terms.

‘I hear the boy talking – and it him was that leaked the rumour –that he gets a $100million and I get $7m– that’s a paycut for me. I don’t take paycuts,’ McGregor told ESPN’s Sunday Conversation.

‘I thought boxing was where the money was at. The $7m is absolutely laughable. If he’s getting a $100m, I’m also talking $100m.

‘I’m 27 years of age and I’m just about half way through $100m contract. At 27 years of age Floyd Mayweather was on Oscar De La Hoya’s undercard, so compare that.

‘Who doesn’t want to conquer both worlds?

‘He’s getting old now. I have the size, I have the reach, I have the height, I have the youth.

‘He needs me. I don’t need him. Who else can he fight?

‘He fights someone else in the boxing realm and all of a sudden the pay goes from £100m to $15m.

‘So , he needs me. If he wants to talk, we can talk, but it’s me who’s in control here.’

McGregor may want to have his say on the size of the gate, but says he has no qualms on the terms of the fight itself.

‘He can make the all the rules he wants,’ he added.

‘I know he will not want to fight in a mixed martial arts contest in a true fight. He’ll want in a limited fight there’s no problem, I can do that. I will set aside many other forms of fighting that I practice and focus on one particular craft.

‘I’m in the game of spinning plates. I’m spinning a boxing plate. I’m spinning a taekwondo plate. I’m spinning a jiu jitsu plate. I’m spinning a freestyle wrestling plate. I’m spinning a karate plate. There’s so many plates spinning.

‘If I was to put all of them down and only have a boxing one spinning it would be a load of my shoulders.’
