Angry commuter 'hit security guard in face and racially abused him before claiming 'You are just jealous because you can't f*** me' as she refused to show him her ticket'

  • Rajveer Sandhu accused of assaulting security guard Brandon Thompson
  • The 25-year-old alleged to have racially abused him at Slough train station
  • She claims self-defence and says Mr Thompson put hands round her neck
  • Sandhu refused to show valid ticket even though she had a season ticket

A commuter told a security guard 'you're just jealous because you can't f*** me' after lashing out and racially abusing him when he restrained her for refusing to show her train ticket, a court heard.

Rajveer Sandhu is accused of calling G4S security guard Brandon Thompson a 'monkey' and a 'black b******' and hitting him in the face after he stopped her during an organised ticket check.

But she denies this and claims she was acting in self-defence after Mr Thompson grabbed her hair and put his hands around her neck.

He was branded a 'liar and a bully' by Sandhu's defence counsel at Reading Crown Court, an accusation Mr Thompson denied during his cross-examination.

Sandhu is said to have persistently ignored requests from a conductor and Mr Thompson to show her ticket as she made her way home off a train at Slough railway station on February 17, 2015.

It later emerged the 25-year-old passenger had a season ticket and was in possession of it when she was stopped.

Jurors were told that during the alleged exchange, Mr Thompson held Sandhu's arm as she tried to make an attempt to get round him. He had blocked her way to stop her leaving the station without showing a valid ticket, the court heard, but this is said to have caused her to fly into a rage.

CCTV footage shown to the jury revealed that Mr Thompson then physically restrained her and walked her several paces backwards.

Sandhu was accused of leaving the group of security guards who had attended the argument and flicking them her middle finger while shouting: 'It's because you are just jealous because you can't f*** me' as the reason why she had been pulled to one side.

Sandhu denied that she had racially abused the security guard and claimed she was acting in self-defence.

Jonah Walker-Smith, defending, told Mr Thompson: 'You were pulling Ms Sandhu's hair and had your hands around her throat. Then you put your face into her face.'

Mr Thompson, giving evidence, replied: 'I didn't pull her hair as you can see on the video. My action was normal if someone hits you. You are not expecting that so you react.

'At all times I was being professional - I didn't say anything back.'

Mr Walker-Smith added: 'If you are right and she was calling you all the racist words under the sun, you were subject to a torrent of racial abuse you had every reason to go to the police and yet you didn't.

'You were being verbally and physically aggressive and being a bully which is basically what you are, a liar and a bully,' he said.

Mr Thompson replied: 'I disagree.'

A passenger who walked past the dispute is said to have seen Sandhu screaming at members of staff behind the ticket counter. The witness described the 25-year-old as 'very, very angry'.

Katroina Larkey said: 'She was screaming something at somebody that I couldn't see. She said "You know what you did was wrong you f*****g b******, I'm going to call the f*****g police on you."

'She was very, very angry.'

Following the incident Sandhu made a complaint to the police but after questioning Mr Thomson, the police brought two charges of racially aggravated assault by beating and assault by beating, against her.

The court heard another passenger, on witnessing the argument between the pair, had allegedly shouted at other guards nearby: 'You want to get him off her he's lost it. Someone should sort that out, he's lost it.'

Roxanne Aisthorpe, prosecuting, said: 'She suggested that she had been assaulted and been the victim of an assault. That led to her making a statement and Mr Thompson being interviewed.

'When interviewed, Miss Sandhu stated in fact Mr Thompson had been the aggressor; that immediately upon him going to speak to her, he pushed her up against the bridge and had held her there. She was scared and had slapped him once in self-defence.

'She denied that at any point did she use any racially aggravated language towards Mr Thompson.'

Jurors have been told that the two charges against Sandhu are alternates and that she can be found guilty of either offence, but not both.

Sandhu, of Slough, denies both offences. The trial, at Reading Crown Court before Judge Ian Grainger, was adjourned until tomorrow.
