NEW The body of Australian university lecturer Marise Strydom remains on Mount Everest at the 8,000-metre mark after she died from altitude sickness when she was descending over the weekend. Her husband, Robert Gropel, suffered high altitude pulmonary oedema and was airlifted to hospital in Kathmandu on Monday, but has since been released. Dr Gropel, a Melbourne vet, is understood to be distraught and does not want to leave Nepal without his wife's body.

More than 20 body bags containing remains recovered amid the wreckage from the Mediterranean Sea crash were brought to the Zenhom morgue in the capital by the Egyptian Army at midnight last night. Relatives of the 66 passengers and crew who died were invited to give DNA samples to the forensic services to aid identification. The process was expected to be long and difficult after forensic workers described the remains as 'unrecognisable'. A source said: 'There is no complete body. There are only body parts. But it is important for the families to be able to bury their loved-ones and to be able to visit their grave to help with the mourning process.' It comes as hundreds of mourners attended memorial services (pictured) over the weekend for some of the 66 victims of the EgyptAir plane which mysteriously crashed into the Mediterranean on Thursday after an apparent fire on board.

The textbook, which is for college prep algebra, features an image of five happy looking students with their arms draped around each other. In each of their hands is a textbook - the same textbook, in fact, that they themselves are seen posing for, which means they're each holding a picture of themselves standing as they are at that very moment. Confused, several people have offered up ideas for how this 'special effect' could be achieved.

After burying her underworld killer father, Dhakota Williams (left aged nine at her father's funeral and right aged 15 at grandfather's funeral) said the death of Carl Williams (inset) made her angry and that she lost a 'big chunk of her heart'. Now, six years later she has buried her grandfather and patriarch of the Williams crime family, Carl's father George, after he died from a heart attack at the start of the month in his Melbourne home. Carl Williams, 39, was killed in 2010 after being struck on the head with part of an exercise bike by a fellow inmate in Barwon Prison, near Geelong, Victoria.

Kind hearted Florence Welch stopped by a hospice to give a private performance to a sick teenager who missed one of her concerts. The 29-year-old held the hand of 15-year-old cancer patient Karinya Chen as she sang Shake It Out and Dog Days Are Over backed by bandmate Rob Ackroyd on guitar. The sweet moment came as Welch, who performs as Florence And The Machine, stopped by Hospice Austin's Christopher House in Texas on Friday  

Images of the statue with a red liquid dripping down its cheek have been shared on social media, prompting a mass pilgrimage to Floridablanca in Columbia. Locals believe they have witnessed a miracle and others are swarming to catch a glimpse. Resident Ana Cristina Jimenez said: 'I saw that the Virgin had a tear of blood. I was surprised. I felt joyful, sad... everything!' Miryan Quintero added: 'I believe it. The Virgin is alive in Heaven. I know she's real.'

Mother Jennie Gray, 36, told the court that Ben Butler was an 'amazing' father to their daughter, Ellie (inset), who she described as a 'daddy's girl'. Giving evidence at the Old Bailey, she denied the characterisation of her partner as a violent man constantly on the brink of losing his temper, claiming 'his bark is definitely worse than his bite'. NEW Nancy Kidwell's (left, top right) first husband Slim was flying from Minnesota to California in 1965 when he got lost and flew over a beautiful patch of Nevada desert. The couple, 34 years apart in age, decided to move to to the desert outpost and farm under a land-settlement act. They eventually expanded the town, called Cal-Nev-Ari (bottom right), to include a casino and an airport. When her husband got sick with Alzheimer's in the 1980s, his son from a previous marriage, Ace, moved to Nevada to take care of him. Kidwell fell in love with her husband's son, and the two got married after Slim died in 1983. Ace died in 2011 from Alzheimer's as well and now Kidwell is looking to sell their town and move on. She has listed the entire town for an $8million asking price.

Ciena Rae Nelson, from Los Angeles (pictured), has shared two snaps on Instagram showing how she covers up the painful red patches on her skin (left) and how her skin really looks underneath the thick layer of make-up she applies each day (centre). Although she admits increasing the saturation on her barefaced snap to highlight the difference between the pictures, she says that it reveals the extent of her condition. Ciena has previously posted other photographs of herself explaining the extent of her skin condition and the anxiety it can cause (right).

Carol and Bernard Ross Sr had all but abandoned hope of finding their son Bernard Jr (left, before he disappeared) when he vanished from their family home in Fort Kent, Maine, on May 12, 1977. Almost four decades later an anonymous letter claims to have key information on how Bernard, who would now be 57 (right, an artist's impression), disappeared. The letter was sent to his parent's new home in Gorham, Maine, where they have lived since 2001. Police Lt Troy Gardner of the state police said: 'I've never had anything like this happen in my career.' He refused to disclose any information about the letter until police can determine its authenticity but he refused to rule out the possibility that it was a 'horrible' hoax.

NEW Roots author Alex Haley's widow My Lewis, 68, has told Daily Mail Online how he demanded she keep her contribution to Roots and their 15-year marriage a secret. Haley's deepest secrets only became apparent to his family when he died suddenly of a heart attack, aged just 70, in 1992 - in the arms of his mistress. There were more shocks when Haley's will was read. He'd left generous cash bequests for all three of his wives (including My, top left, Nannie, bottom left and Juliette, to her right) and numerous other women but there wasn't actually any money. He was $1.5million in debt. Haley spent 12 years researching and writing his epic family saga at a time when most African Americans knew little about their slave ancestors. The book, Roots, book was an instant sensation when it was published 40 years ago and was made into 1977 TV series. The series has been remade and will premiere on Memorial Day.

Former kickboxer Viacheslav Datsik (top left), 36, calls himself Red Tarzan and has declared war on prostitution in the city of St Petersburg. Harrowing footage shows him and several other men including Stanislav Baretsky (inset), a 44-year-old Russian musician and actor, raiding a brothel (bottom left). Datsik has reportedly been calling police and tipping them off, effectively orchestrating raids but this time police did not appear to be involved. In a raid last week, prostitutes and their customers were forced to walk naked outside (right).

A video of a baby and puppy cuddling in a swing proves you're never too young to see a dog as 'man's best friend'. In the video the dog wears pajamas and drapes its paw over the baby as they pair rock back and forth. As the swing goes back and forth the baby looks cheerfully at the camera, while the puppy appears to be so relaxed with its friend it might fall asleep. During the 15 second clip, a woman's voice can be heard asking the baby if it loves its puppy companion. The baby smiles back at the woman as the content pup blinks lazily.

A black puppy born with a trunk where its nose should be (top left), a piglet with a head shaped like an elephant (top right), a two-headed calf (bottom left), a human-like pig, and a four-legged chick.... these are just four of the abnormally high number of 'mutant' animals born in Argentina in recent years. Experts put the deformities down to the use of the use of the pesticide glyphosate, which is used on genetically modified soy bean crops.

The Dome House Boutique (main picture today and top left in 2010) was built for the Grand Design cameras with a grand open plan living area (top right), swimming pool, sauna, four-poster beds and glorious views of Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria. But the once ultra-modern luxury holiday let is now dilapidated and disintegrating. Mother-of-three Claire Farn had booked a week-long family holiday there in August for £1,000 after seeing the lodge on TV. But after booking online she heard nothing back for a month. She said: 'We couldn't get in touch with anyone and were really worried about our holiday. Then their website disappeared and so did their ­listing on eBay.' According to neighbours, the Dome has been deserted for three months. The project appeared doomed from the start after Robert and Milla Gaukroger ran out of money. The Grand Designs show ended with it being half-finished but a viewer then offered to put up the rest of the cash. Mr Gaukroger said last year he had to put it on the market because 'we have a loan to pay'.
