'Don't understand the need to go here': Ciara insists there is no feud between her and the 'amazing' Rihanna as she calls out MTV for stirring rumours

Back in 2011 they had a fierce Twitter feud.

But Ciara has clearly moved on as she insisted in a series of tweets on Sunday night that she has nothing but love for the 'amazing' Rihanna.

The host of Sunday night's Billboard Music Awards called out MTV, accusing them of stirring after they suggested she refused to say Rihanna's name during the star-studded Las Vegas ceremony.

Ciara was frustrated when she saw a tweet, which has since been deleted from MTV Music's account, as they tweeted along live with the Billboard ceremony which Ciara hosted with Ludacris.

The tweet read: 'Luda, you know Ciara won't say Rihanna's name.'

Ciara took offence, replying to the post and insisting that she thought Rihanna's performance of her new track Love On The Brain on Sunday was 'amazing.'

She wrote: 'Thought She Was Amazing.1 Of The Best Performances Of The Night Don't Understand The Need 2 Go Here. #What'sThePoint?'

Step up your style game in Ciara's Giuseppe Zanotti sandals

Ciara stunned as the host of the Billboard Music Awards in no less than seven different looks. From a revealing Michael Costello jumpsuit to a shiny, silver red carpet gown by Philipp Plein, the Body Party singer ticked a number of boxes on the trend list last night.

Here she showed off her gorgeous stems in a metallic Roberto Cavalli mini dress. Ciara further elongated her legs in a pair of strappy Giuseppe Zanotti sandals.

The cage sandals are a signature of the brand and come in different colors and heights. So whether you're feeling the flat look or you want a pair of knee high stunners, Giuseppe's got 'em!

Ciara then asked the account exactly who was tweeting on their behalf, writing: '@MTVMusic Furthermore, who's the 'newbee' tweeting on behalf of MTV?'

Before adding: '@MTVMusic There's no way someone of experience is posting content like that during a show of this caliber. God Bless #SpreadLove.'

While there is clearly no feud between the ladies now, back in 2011 it was a different story after Ciara claimed on U.S. TV show Fashion Police that Rihanna had ignored her when they met at a party.

'I ran into her recently at a party,' she said on the E! show. 'She wasn't the nicest. It's crazy, because I've always loved and respected what she's done in fashion. It wasn't the most pleasant run-in.'

Rihanna was quick to respond, tweeting: 'My bad ci, did I 4get to tip u?; to which Ciara replied: 'Trust me Rihanna you don't want to see me on or off the stage.'

At which Rihanna laughed: 'Good luck with bookin that stage u speak of.' 'Pure comedy,' responded Ciara.

But the two obviously realised they had taken their public spat too far.

Rihanna was first to backtrack, saying: 'Ciara baby, I love u girl! U hurt my feelings real bad on TV! I'm heartbroken! That's y I retaliated this way! So sorry!'

'Spread love': Ciara then asked the account exactly who was tweeting on their behalf, writing: '@MTVMusic Furthermore, who's the 'newbee' tweeting on behalf of MTV?'

To which Ciara gratefully responded: 'Rhi, u know its always been love since day 1! Doing shows and everything. You threw me off in that party! Apology accepted. Let's chat in person.'

Fast forward to 2013 though and Ciara appeared to reignite the war of words in an interview with Wild 94.9 radio.

'I don't have beef with anybody, but I'm not going to be disrespected either. I wish her well,' she said before adding:

'I don't know what her problem is. I think she's nuts right now, like, whatever's going on, because for me, it doesn't make any sense,' she said.

'She has a lot of good things going on with herself. A lot of good things I've always said I've been happy for her. I don't get it. I really don't, but I wish her well. I wish her positivity.'
