Drake adds insult to injury by trolling LeBron James with throwback photo after the former MVP was elbowed in the face as Cleveland conceded to the Toronto Raptors

Drake, the hip hop artist and self-professed ambassador of the Toronto Raptors, trolled LeBron James online after his team nabbed an unexpected win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday.

The Raptors kept their hopes alive in the playoff series by triumphing at home in Game 3, with a 99-84 win - the lowest score for the Cavs in the last 50 games.

In the process, LeBron suffered a dramatic fall to the ground as he was elbowed in the face by his own teammate Tristan Thompson. James grimaced and fell backwards.

Perhaps more painful, he was averaging a career-low with 24.5 points in the playoffs despite the Cavaliers' recent success.

Adding insult to injury, Drake posted a throwback photo on Instagram of the former MVP looking dismayed.

He captioned it 'Flying home for Game 4', and added a crying emoji as he tagged his friend, a DJ and Cavs fan who is particularly fond of LeBron.

The Raptors will hope to even the series with another win at home on Monday.

Canada-born Drake was not in his usual court-side spot at the Air Canada Centre, despite celebrating the Raptors' spot in the playoffs on Instagram a week ago.

Perhaps his presence will be a boost of good luck for the squad as LeBron will likely be hell-bent on redeeming the Cavs' record to return home 3-1 up.

And Drake's trolling can't have helped dampen LeBron's motivation.

LeBron told reporters on Saturday that he will play a more fierce role in Monday night's game.

He lamented that he didn't handle the ball as much as usual - something coach Tyronn Lue also highlighted, saying it was a mistake on his part.

'We'll have a better game plan going into Game 4,' LeBron said defiantly.

The game will air at 8.30pm Eastern Time.
