Body of Dr Maria Strydom retrieved from Mount Everest

The body of Melbourne university lecturer Maria Strydom, 34, have reportedly been recovered and brought down Mount Everest to be transferred to Kathmandu within days. She died at the peak on Saturday afternoon after suffering altitude sickness. Her husband, Robert Gropel, was on the climb with her and was airlifted to hospital after also falling sick. He has since been released and is focused on retrieving Dr Strydom.

China unveils elevated bus that drives over the TOP of other cars

Designs for the 'Transit Elevated Bus' (pictured) were unveiled at the 19th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo, which showed a scale model of the vehicle passing over other cars on the road. The bus will be able to carry up to 1,200 passengers, according to engineers. They say passengers will sit far above the road, while other vehicles pass through a space underneath them. The first tests of the bus are scheduled to start trail operation in Qinhuangdao City, north China's Hebei Province, in the second half of this year.

Vivid light and music festival will bring 10 enormous illuminated animals to Sydney's taronga zoo for the first time. Ten giant sculptures of critical Australian species - including spiders, crocodiles and turtles - were lit up Tuesday night as a trial ahead of the official opening on Friday. Children from remote Chinese village have to climb 17 unsecured cliff ladders

Incredible images show children climbing a 2624-foot-tall cliff in Sichuan Province, south-west China, in order to go home from their school at the foot of the mountain (inset). The pupils, who are from the remote Atule'er village, spent two hours climbing 17 unsecured vine ladders (main) during the process. A local official said the trip could be extremely dangerous and it had killed around eight residents. Villagers have asked for a road to be built, however the government says it would be too costly, according to Chinese media.

The discovery was made after scientists from Europe, Russia and the US measured the length of arm, leg and pelvic bones of two neonate Neanderthal skeletons from Russia and Spain.

These two tourists got the shock of their lives when they opened their eyes to see two adult lions standing right outside their flimsy tents. Thankfully the two big cats seemed more interested in licking the dew off the sides of their tent in the Mabuasehube game reserve, Botswana.
