'Unintended shade thrown': Anne Hathaway deletes Instagram post that urged fans to be like Helena Bonham Carter 'in a world of Kardashians'

She was sharing a quote encouraging her fans to be themselves, even if it's a little different from the norm.

But Anne Hathaway had second thoughts about the Instagram meme she posted on Monday after receiving backlash from social media users who felt she was dissing the Kardashian clan.

The 33-year-old actress had shared a popular snapshot of Helena Bonham Carter with the caption: 'In a world of Kardashians... be a Helena Bonham Carter.'

In the image the 49-year-old Fightclub star is seen standing with her hand on her hip, wearing a cute and quirky outfit and rocking her signature messy hair.

Anne wrote alongside the meme '(Red) Queen' in reference to Carter's character in Alice Through The Looking Glass.

The two actresses play sisters in the upcoming fantasy film.

She also added the hashtag '#regram' to credit a pal's page where she got the image from.

Look lovely in a lace dress this summer

Anne Hathaway may only have given birth at the end of March but she's already looking pretty fabulous as she demonstrated at an event last night.

Wearing a lovely cut work lace midi, the Oscar winning actress looked fresh as a daisy and just as pretty. We love the contrasting dark red lip and side swept hair next to her alabaster skin and delicate dress.

By Disaya this look is from the designer's Resort 2016 collection and it's just the thing for a spring day. In fact a white lace dress is a great choice for this time of year and will look fabulous on a holiday, at the races or a smart garden party.

Just don't wear white to a wedding unless you want to upset the bride. For those who'd like to recreate Anne's look this season we've picked out some very pretty dresses below.

But when some of her followers took exception to the sentiment, accusing the actress of 'bringing people down' the Devil Wears Prada star decided to take down the post.

One user slammed the star saying: 'Really Anne? You don’t have to put other people down to bring someone up'

But some commenters stood up for the Intern star, writing: 'I take it to mean that it’s okay to not focus on superficial things in a society where these things are what seems to be given more value nowadays,'

After deleting the meme Anne then shared a second post with the message 'Post removed for unintended shade thrown.'

She wrote her own caption alongside it expressing her regret.

'It never occurred to me I was pitting anyone against each other. Not my style. Peace x' she wrote.

Earlier this month Carter talked to Harper's Bazaar about her theory on beauty and ageing: 'You can’t worry about things you can’t do anything about,

'Bits of me are different ages, anyways. My knees are really ancient, I’ve always had terrible eyes and a terrible back. My arms and tummy are quite good.'

Anne recently welcome a son, Jonathan, with her husband Adam Shulman.
