'I have feelings of hopelessness': Courtney Stodden reveals she is suffering from depression as she struggles to adapt to pregnancy

It is supposed to be one of the happiest moments of a woman's life.

But Courtney Stodden has revealed she has been suffering from depression, and it has got even worse since she discovered she is pregnant.

The reality television personality, who shot to nationwide infamy after marrying the then 50-year-old actor Doug Hutchison when she was just 16, also said her condition is affecting her sleep and eating habits.

The 21-year-old told Us Weekly: 'I suffer from depression. My depression affects my appetite, sleeping patterns and overall perspective on life

'At times, I have severe insomnia and other times I find myself sleeping too much.

'I have feelings of hopelessness but experience many moments of absolute euphoria.'

But Courtney is not alone with her struggles, as between 14 and 23 per cent of pregnant women suffer from prenatal depression according to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

It emerged on the same day she she shared an unflattering image of herself hunched over a toilet on Instagram, which she captioned: '"When does this end? #firsttrimester #baby #pregnant #morningsickness #notjustinthemornings.' 

Her revelation comes only weeks since she confirmed she is having her first baby with her now 55-year-old husband, who was branded a paedophile when they started their relationship. 

It led to Doug being disowned by his family and brought to his once flourishing acting career to an abrupt halt.

But his love for teen bride Courtney Stodden was such that the Green Mile star swore he would do it all again in a heartbeat. And now he has.

The couple celebrated their five-year wedding anniversary over the weekend by renewing their vows.

There was no visible sign of a bump as the father-to-be kept a protective hand on his wife's stomach while smiling in photographs after the ceremony, which was conducted by their friend Ruba Wilson.

The last five years have been far from a blissful stroll down the primrose path for the couple, and at one point they even separated before reconciling.
