PICTURED: Crew build a Jedi-style temple on a dramatic cliff overlooking the Atlantic as Star Wars Episode VIII continues filming in Ireland... but could flocking fans overshadow ancient monastic site?

There's still another 18 months to wait before fans can find out what happens to Rey and co in the next episode of the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

However, fans can whet their appetite with a sneak peek at one of the sets as filming on Episode VIII continues in Ireland.

Film crews appear to be reconstructing the 6th century monastic site from the island of Skellig Michael in Co. Kerry - which was used in last year's The Force Awakens - on the rocky headland of Ceann Sibéal further north.

Cranes and construction workers have been spotted building stone huts at the dramatic, rugged location as they create a Jedi-style temple complex for the upcoming movie.

Ceann Sibéal is a dramatic headland on the Dingle Peninsula, named after the wife of a swashbuckling 17th century poet Piaras Feiritéar, who was hanged in 1653.

The set building seems to suggest that the movie studio has decided against filming again on the World Heritage site of Skellig Michael, which would have been more difficult logistically as it is located 7.2 mile west of the Iveragh Peninsula.

Conservationists previously expressed concern for the island's puffin colony and conditions of the 6th century archaeology during shooting of The Force Awakens earlier in 2014.

Over the past two weeks, actors Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher have all been spotted in the local area.

Last week, huge trailers arrived in the nearby town of Dingle to house the cast and crew due to lack of available accommodation.

Shooting moved to Kerry this week following filming in Malin Head - the most northerly point in Ireland - on Inishowen Peninsula, County Donegal earlier this month.

A huge white structure, at least 50 feet (15m) across and 10 feet (3m) high, was seen on the cliffs, with locals quick to predict it was a replica of the Millennium Falcon.

Episode VIII, due for release in December 2017, will be written and directed by Rian Johnson, after last year's blockbuster was helmed by JJ Abrams, who will executive producer the new sequel.

At the end of The Force Awakens, Rey (Ridley) locates Jedi Master Luke Skywalker (Hamill) and returns his lightsaber after he spent much of the film in hiding.
