PC George! Prince enjoys a ride on a police motorbike with help from a smiling Kate and FOUR officers (just like a young William did 29 years earlier)

As a young royal, he is used to having an armed escort, however today Prince George got his taste of what life is like for an officer - with a ride on an official Met Police motorbike.

The two-year-old was watched carefully by his mother the Duchess of Cambridge, who smiled as she held Princess Charlotte in a pushchair, while four officers helped the prince on to the vehicle and place his hands on the handle bars - which his little arms could just about reach.

The scene, which took place today around Kensington Palace as the royal family waved off Princess Anne in a helicopter, was reminiscent of a similar incident when George's father William enjoyed a similar ride on a policeman's bike 29 years ago.

Isn't little Prince George charming?

The last time we saw the Duchess of Cambridge and her son together, he was wearing his adorable dressing gown to meet Barack Obama. But this time the duo were in off-duty mode when they were spotted in the grounds of Kensington Palace, and of course we couldn't help but notice what Kate was wearing.

Her dress is by UK retailer, Great Plains, and we love the animal-inspired print and flattering pleated skirt. We know that Kate likes to stick to certain styles and brands, and in fact she wore this so-called Cezanne dress in a different print for an engagement back in 2013.

All you Duchess fans out there will be delighted to hear that her exact dress is available to buy now on the Great Plains website for just $110, so click (right) to get it before it's gone...

Or take your pick from the elegant printed dresses we've got lined up for you. From Forever 21 to Oscar de la Renta all budgets are covered.

The Duchess, 34, who just hours later would be attending the Queen's Garden Party with her husband the Duke of Cambridge, looked summery in a short-sleeved dress as she laughed and smiled with the officers.

The four armed Met Police looked relaxed with the royal family members, and helped Prince George to sit on to the motorcycle, which is used for official duties.

A source told FEMAIL: 'I was walking to Notting Hill from Kensington to go to the gym when I saw a helicopter taking off at the back of Kensington Palace.

'I noticed George and his mother watching Princess Anne take off. The Princess was wearing a Navy uniform.

'After the helicopter took off, the prince had a go on a policeman's motorbike for quite a while.

'Kate was really smiley. There were about three or four hundred people watching. It was so lovely.'

In November 1987, Prince William and Prince Harry were photographed giving a royal salute from atop a police motorbike during a visit to the police force in Windsor.

Today, Kate wore a Cezanne pleated dress, costing £75 from Great Plains. And at certain points the 34-year-old mother-of-two looked comfortable enough to leave George in the captable hands of the officers.

She was pictured looking intently at Charlotte while the policemen spoke and laughed with George.

The prince looked smart as he enjoyed the thrilling ride, wearing a blue and white striped jumper over a light blue shirt and a tie. He also wore navy shorts.

Princess Anne was today heading to Portsmouth to unveil the newly-conserved HMS Hood bell at the National Museum of the Royal Navy.

Last year Kate told well-wishers in Dundee that she hates it when Prince William rides his motorbike and vowed to ban her firstborn from riding motorbikes when he is older.

She said that Prince William's motorbikes fill her with horror and she hates it when he rides the 'dangerous' machines.

A local named Fearghas Simpson, 28, asked the Duchess if William still took his Ducati motorbike, which costs £20,000 and can go from 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds, out for a spin. The Prince was last seen riding the 190mph machine the night before the Royal Wedding in 2011.

Kate replied: 'He's still riding it. It always fills me with horror when he goes out on it‎. I'm terrified. Hopefully, I'm going to keep George off it.'
