It has been almost a decade since this star put out an album but with her beau's linage it is no wonder she's ready to put back the musical pieces.

Ashlee Simpson and husband Evan Ross indulged in a bit of retail therapy in West Hollywood, California, on Monday as it was revealed the couple plan to make sweet music together - literally.

The 31-year-old actress told AOL that she and Evan have been recording together and plan to release an album soon.

She told the website: 'Evan and I are making an album together. Both of us were in the studio separately, and then one day we were like, ''Let's go together!' It's been really fun to do it together. It's special.''

Ashlee has not had the most consistent musical career - she has released three albums, the last being in 2008, and in 2012 dropped a single Bat For A Heart - but she now that she has some serious music heritage joining her as Evan's mom is Diana Ross, things look about to change.

Ashlee has two children. Bronx, 7, with ex Pete Wentz and daughter Jagger, 10 months, so she said mixing music and motherhood has its challenges and rewards.

She told AOL: 'It's a good balance. Being a mom and having the kids and doing my music and going to the studio, you definitely have to have a balance in your life with everything.

'That's been something really important for me, and it's come naturally. My husband is also awesome - he helps out a lot!'

The couple have been married now for almost two years and looked very much in love as they shared a kiss while out shopping Monday.

The couple and a friend stopped into Urban Outfitters where they picked up a little something.
